I drove a really nice clubman yesterday that had 9inch brakes brake conversion. From memory they were suzuki brakes? not sure, but BOY they stopped hard. It has made me think alot about Lillee's brakes

So if you were me and this was the 2 situations, what would you do?

OK, Lillee has never had flares, I like the look of no flares and I'd like to keep it that way but I need disk brakes in the near future

Situation 1: I have 1 whole set of new bling bling LS contessas ready to go onto the car. These are offset so that they fit on my current offset drums (front and rear) so that all I need is front 7.5 inch S Discs and away we go. At least $1500 for S discs but no more to spend and I get to keep the no flares look.

Situation 2: I go out, buy 4 regular offest contessas ($200?), 4 flares ($150?), a new chrome edge strip (??) convert a set of Honda Brakes ($200?) and install them on Lillee. Total cost probably around $550-$700 but they will be very good at stopping and she will look wide and mean

EIther way the rear master cylinders will need to be changed to so they don't lock up first. Another $100?

Either way it will cost money, but which would you go? Bottom line, Flares or no Flares???

rear wheel cylinders (slaves) for disc fronts are quite reasonably priced... probably one of the few things that isnt an "exploit the miniowner" price. IMO

Chong,
Just bung some Inno flares (like mine) on it- no body mods needed, and if you want to take them off later, just fill the tiny screw holes.

BTW they were Honda 9.1" discs, with a VH44 servo.. stop OK, don't they!

Chong,

The Doc hasn't mentioned it so obviously I'm wrong, but I thought you would have needed S offset contessas to fit over 7.5" S brakes. No?

I realise S offset means flares though.

So-called S offset Contessas will fit over S brakes with a bit of stuffing about. And no you don't need flares. Just the $$$ for the brakes..

I'd probably save for the 7.5 inchers. Less screwing around.

I've got honda 9.1's under 12" Chinalites. Stops pretty well.

I do believe the LS contessas I have now, if I wack in 7.5 S brakes they fit without flares. I have stepped drums on all 4 right now with these contessas and no flares so...

One thing though Kev, if I go flares it will have to be like Barneys. Inno flares just won't do! it will make Lillee look like a Rover! (not that there's anything wrong with that... )

I would go the full monte and weld wheel arc bits just like Barney's ones, they are pristine!

One things is for sure, 10inch wheels all the way either way...

Bloody hell they did!  on a dime!

But Kev, I can't use the LS contessas I have now if I go the honda brakes option right?? I think I've asked this before...

No the LS Contessas are fine with discs, if they are Cooper 7" or Cooper S 7-1/2". Nothing else will fit in there.. too much inset!

If you wanna keep the looks without flares, get some S discs. Cheap ones are out there- I know a couple of people who scored some recently.

BTW Chong.. are you taking the piss out of Mini Ha Ha?? Same brightwork as yours.. I don't think it looks like a Rover- it doesn't have the right crappy grille!

WHat? Don't put words into my mouth. I just don't like black flares! In fact, I just don't like flares full stop!

You're car is awesome! what are you on about? I measure my car on yours! (and I think lots of other people do too!). If only Lillee was half as able as Ha ha  Remeber when I came on Saturday I almost had a heart attack at the sight of Ha ha with no engine

Flares... i just don't know... :(
