Although none of the new MINI people have advertised it here I found out that there is the launch of clubMINI in Victoria at Mt. Cooper, Bundoora this coming Sunday 13th March at 12pm. You can check out the details at www.clubmini.com.au

You can't enter with your Classic Mini or become a member of their club as they won't accept Classic Mini's at all.

But, if you want to see a few new MINI's it would probably be the place to be.

I find it quite disturbing that the new MINI has been accepted as a Mini within the Classic scene but they won't accept the Classic Mini in their scene.

What a rip! I reckon we get all the classic minis to roll up anyway and steal all the attention!

Let me see if I can sneak the car into a lineup of MINI's  technically the car was made by BMW anyway!

Jan, having driven the car, I think I might wait a few (as in 8 ) months and get a 1.3i.
I think I need to drive a few cars round and get a feel for what I want.

A few inaccuracied in your post...
not all clubs in the classic Mini movement accept or welcome MINIs, especially in WA :(

The event is the launch of clubMINI (Vic) Inc
The club constitution allows the club to accept anyone who has an interest in the MINI you don't have to own either a Mini or a MINI.

clubMINI is supported by BMW hence the focus on MINIs.

I am absolutely sure that the Victorian MINI owners all love Minis as well as MINIs and would welcome seeing you there. I'd be very surprised if they refused to accept your money for membership fees.

There are similar launches in NSW, QLD & WA, not all on the same date.

I'll post details of the WA launch as soon as we have the venue confirmed and we'll be happy to take your money :D

The club is backed by the manufacturer. Of course the focus is on cars made by that manufacturer. We are constantly reminded by classic owners that our cars are manufactured by BMW by calling them BINIs.

It is highly unlikely that any classics would join if given the chance. There was a mini club started in my local area by a dude that worked at a BINI dealer. minis were welcome but none bothered. The club folded due to lack of interest in the end but there were never any classics at the few events that were held. Like Mike said though - you would definately be welcomed with open arms were you to put in an appearance.

Well, I can't speak for ALL of us, but as a MINI owner, I can assure you that most of us definately accept Minis 'in our scene'. We actually love them. It's easy to get the wrong impression. By reading though Ausmini its hard to see where the "bini" is accepted by classic owners. But by and large, I know that it is, but there are just this vocal few that make us feel unwelcome. Maybe ClubMINI give off the same vibe to classic owners, but I think its all just an unintentional perception.

The thing is, that ClubMINI is endorsed, and advertised by BMW as an official owners club, and as such they impose a few rules on the club. But the members of the club, and the owners of the cars (generally speaking) love the classic Mini. Many MINI owners - me included - own one or more.

Turn up to their BBQ. Don't be scared. You'll be amazed how many MINI owners come and tell you that their first car was a Mini, and the've loved them ever since.

The irony is that I am not even a member of ClubMINI, and although I am going to the launch I may not even become a member in the near future. My family are members of the Mini Car Club Of NSW and we get all our club needs supported from there. But the point is that ClubMINI are doing a good job, and are providing a service for a lot of MINI owners who may not have felt comfortable joining a predominantly classic Mini club, or BMW owners club, for whatever reasons. I feel that ClubMINI will be a success, due to the fact that MINI owners are so passionate about their cars, and that's what it takes for a Club to keep going. It's worked for MCCNSW for 42 years.

I'm sorry to hear you are disappointed with the situation.

As many have said this club is backed by the BMW group for particular focus on the new MINI.

Unfortunately there was a driving force in the early days against new MINI owners by some old Mini owners that has seen a group push forward with a plan for a new MINI only club.

The club offers an associate membership that allows non-new MINI owners entry.

Let it be known that this event is also the launch by the Victorian chapter of clubMINI for members and perspective members to come along and enjoy a BBQ and meet the commitee. IT IS NOT A SHOW n SHINE.

We would like to continue to build a friendship with old MINI owners down the track by complimenting each other rather than going 'Head-to-Head'

Last Show n Shine the VMCI had approximately 10 new MINIs there, in the coming years we would look to grow this number to include more new MINIs (if welcome :? )

We are not trying to steal members as most would not be interested, we are only trying to draw more new mini owners out fo the woodwork to enjoy the car in social events such as track days, motorkhanas, picnics, show n shines etc.

Hopefully we can come to the VMCI commitee and say - if you are interested - we would like to run some joint events - in this day and age with insurance, costs etc. - surely this is a win-win situation for both.

Both cars compliment each other very well! (deny it all you like) Surely you could see this as a positive relationship?

You are more than welcome to show up on Sunday - I unfortunately cannot make it as I have a family get together.

Todd
