Anyone ever done this to a mini? On a mini gearbox?
Could be a very economical (and faster than a stock 998) car

There are a few Daihatsu 3 cyl turbo diesel conversions here and in the UK , using the whole engine/gearbox conversion as per a Starlet conversion but is certainly possible .

there is a guy with one fitted in his Moke, I think he is in Qld somewhere and runs a workshop, he advertises in TME, Ritech or something I think.
He has a 2 long range tanks in the moke, holds 100 litres, good for 2500k's or so

Moe means Darren from Britek automotive.

There's not many small turbo diesels small enough around yet. Wait until a few more get crashed. :)

Wouldnt the handling suffer? Because the engine would be heavier than a standard a series? or is it what engine you use?

The charade turbo diesel is actually lighter than the A series by about 40-50kgs.

The A series is pretty heavy for a small engine.

948 diesel pistons for it would be rocking horse by now. And you better get some diesel rods too, the C/R is 22.5:1 or so. I think 850 ones might buckle...
All this diesel nonsense back then for 16HP, from a 948 NA. So what'll the turbo make it then- 32? haha.

Yeah it's a ridiculous idea I know. But somehow the idea of having a Diesel Mini with all BMC bits appeals to me.

You have to take into account that the 16hp from 948cc was not the most HP that they could have made it was the amount power that they decided that they needed for the market that they were selling in.
I am sure that if they wanted to market a 22hp motor it still would have been 948cc.

But don't try to compare a diesel's power output to that from a petrol motor.
I had a truck that had a 12 litre motor that made 240hp.
I had a HQ race car that had a 3.3 litre motor and it made 200hp.
I know which one I would rather use to pull 24 tonnes up a hill.

fair point Mic,

if someone was to do a 948 diesel.... and put a turbo and all that jazz... would the drive shafts need to be customised to suit torque?
