G'day All,

I have had my '64 850 sitting in the garage for quite sometime now, bought it entirely stripped down to bare bones, media blasted and primed. and that's how it sits.

Because I'm gonna be starting from scratch, it leaves me with many options in regards to the engine department. But my requirement are that the mini must look ENTIRELY stock from the outside and I'm not mega interested in going turbo as any engine that can make a mini move faster than a cooper is alrite in my books.

So I was considering buying say a toyota starlet or maybe a suzi swift and using as much as i can (ie. gauges, loom, ecu, engine) from the donor to whack in the mini.

So basically, would either a starlet or swift be good to go with, both n/a, (hopefully only requiring subframe mods)?

Cheers,

Josh.

My choice would be the CB70 3-cyl Turbo Daihatsu Motor ---

Absolutely tiny thing and heaps of power potential being turbo

being a morris you are somewhat hamstrung for space. The starlet is not a fun conversion in a morris. The conversion you chose will depend on your capability and budget.

Ive always wanted to see someone try a suzuki capacino motor. Having said that you'll be ahrd pressed to find one and spares are not plentiful.

A mate of mine an I have been building up one of those for about 12 months. It's super-charged and turboed with solid steel crank, rods etc. Every time we get it on the dyno it either blows a piston, drops a v/v , but it is pulling over 200hp at 10,000 revs. He has plenty of money, It costs him around $8000 every time he re-builds it. Amazing little engs but I keep telling him he has rocks between his ears

Way too much lag with twin turbos. the blower is geared for 280 cfm and 35lbs boost. The blower has a sequential opening inlet butterfly to help the thing idle . The eng runs on methanol

A brilliant motor!

As has been stated before, forged crank, foirged rods and pistons standard. Oil squirters for the bores etc.

The design was based on the 3 cylinder motor cycle engines so tyhey rev their heads off.

Light, compact, and easily capable of 150hp at the wheels with some minor external tweaks.

Two thumbs up from me.

Cheers,
Tricky

Haha, once the front wheels start spinning the HP is irrelevant.
Besides, it will no longer be a `Moke'.

Getting back on topic...

There are some round nose cars around with the Swift engine and no external body mods (both twin cam GTi and the single cam engine too). The radiator and exhaust is a very tight squeeze but it can be done.

The Daihatsu CB70 can be fitted to a round nose body quite easily with no exterior mods. You will have to re-locate the turbo, but the rest is not too hard.

has anyone ever tried to put in a honda jazz motor? they look pretty small (and the engine bay on a jazz doesn't seem big either!)
i'd do it, if i wasn't functionally retarded.
