Gday guys - well fitted the Dell DHLA 40 to the clubby this morning(998cc/202 head/1.5 MS rockers) but cant seem to settle the beast down - It will sit on idle ok - Hammills states 3 1/2 turns out on both screws but when loaded it really barks and farts. I pulled the plugs(brand spankers...)but the plugs were clean as a bell indicating to me it is running lean. I am putting the colourtune on tomorrow to suss out the mixture.

Needing help with this - any pointers welcomed

It is fitted with 145 jets and the other"removeable tubes" is stamped with a "35". I have 32mm chokes in and I am stumped...

Ta in advance

Rob Forsyth

1.What emulsion tubes are in it? Only ones I've found to work in A series are 7772.5 or 7772.6. ex-Alfa ones don't work.... :x
2. Air corrector jets? I'd start with 180 if using 32 chokes.
3. Main jets? I'd start with 150 and work up.
4. Accelerator pump.. is it working properly? Should spray fuel equally from both pump jets when throttle is opened. Best checked with carb off car, and float bowl full.

If you are buying emulsion tubes, 7772.5s are NLA new. 7772.6 U can still get.
I get all my parts (except repair kits) from Eurocarb, their website is www.dellorto.co.uk
Repair kits I got from Repco. `Fuel Miser' p/no DE-250.
Carburettor Service Co in Sydney have jets & kits, but not chokes.

Right Doc - well the emulsions are 7772.10, the air correctors are 240(?) and the main jets are 145. I have a contact here in fyshwick who stocks a lot of NLA stuff for both Dell and Weber so I will pay him a visit. Would the figures I have supplied make the car run lean? Bloody complicated things...lol

Thanks in advance

Rob

Rob I have 2 sets of 7772.5 emulsion tubes if you need them to try, i am in Canberra and you can ring me on 0419 226013 if you like have a few other sizes as well and some mains and idle jets as well, Autotech in Fyshwick has some and has a good selection of jet drills so he can make any size for mains and idles, doc is right Eurocarb in England is greta to deal with and bits only take about week to arrive

Gday guys - well TY muchly for all the advice. I came across a fellow that had a pair of new 7772.5 emulsion tubes(plus new 7772.7/8/10's as well), also a pair of 190 air correctors plus a pair of 165 main jets - the car is now running 110% better than it was. There is still some hesitation but is barely noticeable. Will fiddle with the idle mixture screws and see if I can fine tune it further. The induction noise is a hoot as is the noticeable accelleration increase so I will probably buzz you all again if I encounter any problems. Time to put the colortune on now and get it as close as I can.

Thanks again guys

Yeah well the 772.1 emulsion tube and 240 air correctors was stock Alfa. No wonder it didn't run...
I'd try 180 air correctors if you can get, in Chong's 1098 I used 170 airs, found them better.
Contrary to popular belief, I found the air corrector does not just affect high rpm mixture. Better to have it rich (small) to start with.

Ta Doc - this fellow is still cleaning out his shed - the shed though is the half the size of a footy pitch and it is chockers with goodies let me tell you(including ALL of the various tools for a mini). I am still working the problem my end and I seem to be having a win. Autotech in Fyshwick will get the car now for a rolling road to fine tune it.

Again thanks for your input for which without I would be walking to Russell in Canberra.

Guys - the car is running spot on now - I had it sooo close it wasnt funny. Autotech in Fyshwick dyno-ed it and now has 190 correctors, 7772.5 ems, 155 mains and 50 side pumping accellerator jets. Pete at Autotech did a fantastic job and gave a very modest 57hp to boot(very choofed considering only a 998cc). I want to thank you all for your advice and Makka - ta for the carb - the induction roar is a hoot and really rumbles along.

Next is to get the paint sorted - starting to show its age now - another few week-ends work

Hooroo for now

Waaaay up at 6047rpm. Was watching with bated breath to see if anything was going to let go...lol. I am still trying to find the leftovers of a broken spring retainer though(broke on week-end)but confident it is in the sump(I hope!!).

I think the HP is at the fly but will confirm that - in any case the dellorto has made a huge difference in the driving of the car - it is a lot more fun and pick-up is 110% on what it was. The Monaro highway is now my own personal race track and merging is a cinch.

But by F%#K it was loud - the bike shop all downed tools and came to see what the din was...I was laughing as they were all peering over the fence at the mini sitting there trying to climb out of the rollers!!! The fellow at Autotech took it to 6600rpm though - fingers were crossed the whole time...
