I am currently restoring a 1976 mini pickup and would like to know where i can buy the body coloured arch flares that lots of australian minis are fited with. In the uk similar archs with crome trim are avaliable but have visiable screw holes which make them look a little tacked on. Any ideas? :)

The flares you are referring to are the standard ones fitted to Aussie Minis such as the Clubman S and also the Cooper S. Instead of being screwed to the body, they are riveted to to guards underneath the chrome trim (so as not to be visible) and have a metal extension welded to the guards (hard to explain - the bit that you rivet to). The ones you are referring to are the group 2 arches (I think?) and they are basically the same thing, except mount differently.

The local guy here in Canberra sells them (www.classicmotoring.net.au), but I didn't think they were an Australian only part - should be able to order them from any reputably Mini parts supplier.

Cheers,
Anto.

If you mean the ones that are on my clubman, which are the same as the roundie next too it (pretty sure anyways), then they are standard fitment on pretty much every (all?) Aussy clubmans after about 75 or so.

They were used only in Australia and South Africa.

Try http://www.miniauto.com.au/ , I think Ken has some.

As I said above www.miniauto.com.au (in Qld had some). I'm not sure if new or remanufactured. Last car that had them fitted new here was in 1978..

<edit> click his email link.

They aren't overly wide, so just a warning.

Note- they are mounted unlike any UK style flares- there are metal strips welded inside the arches, then these flares sit on this and are held on mainly by the chrome plastic strips.

Look good when fitted, but the plastic is thin and flimsy.

I Think i understand what you mean. Is it sonething like the wood and pickett arches in the uk that dont have viable screw holes but screws that go up through the wing lip? :D

Check out the flares I used at www.pbase.com/hanra/mini as far as i know these were just standard S flares in fibreglass. That i bought new from Mini Spares Centre, they did need some re-fibreglassing to make them fit perfectly. I wouldnt of thought that they would be so hard to come across over there!!!!!
