Your kidding! that is unreal, If I could keep it front wheel drive and not have to hack up the shell then I would definately do it.

crap that is a light engine. I think if I ever go through with a conversion ill just look into a gti engine as it has been done before.

How quick is it non turbo in the mini?

I haven't put it down the 1/4 mile. It feels quick but best of all the low and mid range torque for the weight of the vehicle makes it feel great. 5th gear up a hill at 1500rpm and it pulls strongly. Nice.

If you really want a lite engine put in a 50Kg Yamaha R1. Who needs torque when it revs to 12000 and produces 152bhp.

Shouldn't you be working?

Did you make your own subframe or have someone make it for you? do you have anymore details? I think this would be the hardest part for me to do.
Im just going through your gallery on 16v now, Its a tight fit by the looks of things but I like how it fits without an extended front. It nearly looks like it is supposed to be there.

I cant wait to finish the ford so I can get started on the mini.

Cheers

Hi guys, I weighed a Mk2 GTI engine with all manifolds the other day.
The engine 94kg === gearbox 26kg
The exhaust manifold was the std cast iron one.
Thru trial and a lot of swaring I have found that you can mount a Suzi GTI engine in
both a round nose and a clubby in exactly the same position in the engine bay.
On a Mk2 motor the manifold runners have got to be shortened by 27mm to give the
minimun 10mm clearance from the throttle body to master cylinders.
My subframe weighs 18kg bare about 2kg more than a std mini one.

Torque Steer----- I don't think drive shaft length is that critical ie within say 30mm
The most important thing is steering geometery and tiebar diameter and how they
are mounted, DO NOT use that std poxy rubber set up use rose joints or similar
