Thanks all for the comments; having it sitting in the driveway makes it feel so much closer than it actually is to being finished.

AWDMOKE: I didn't even think about the pits not liking them. I guess its an easy fix if they knock it back - I will ask the engineer.
Considering its only held on by a couple of grub screws, i can understand why they might not like it incase it comes loose. :?

AUSMINIS4U: I chased up a couple of ex RS W2AIC but the sales kept falling through. Not sure how they would have gone in regards to sizing, but the price is right!

I also went for the bling option in the end and I'm happy with the way it turned out. 8)

I am also not completely happy with the washer bottle under the dash, but I didn't want it in the engine bay. Thanks for the tip about the RS wags bottle. I will have to look into it a bit further. (Not many RS's here in Kalgoorlie though so I may have to buy one and try it out.- My bro lives in Tassie! )

any gen 1 subaru wagon has these, not just rs :D so they should be plentiful , ring any subaru wrecker and they should be able to hook you up.

Well, I've been busy paying for the work I've done on the mini so far, so I'v been a bit quiet on ausmini for the past few months, but I have done quite a bit of substantial work on the mini.

Image

Firstly, I got several of the major systems working / finished. These include the exhaust, driveshafts/cvs, brakes and dashboard/gauges.

Image

Exhaust is 2.5" with blitz cast dump pipe, magnaflow high flow cat, & Lukey muffler, with twin 2.5" stainless tips. its pretty burbley at idle and has a great rasp to it higher in the revs. looks good too, if I do say so myself!

Image
Image

The drive shafts I got made by Rotomotion in Perth. These ended up taking a fair while to get back, due to waiting for the heat treaters. They are turned from new billets and ended up costing me just on $900 including postage to Kalgoorlie.

As far as the brakes go, I ended up biting the bullet and buying a brand new dual circuit m/c and these squeeze juice into my minisport alloy 4 pots and rear drums with smaller dia cylinders. They seem to be a pretty good step up from the cooper s disks I had on it, even though I still need to bleed them properly. :?

As for the dash, I've sorted a few electrical gremlins I had and fitted relays to the lighting system. cut off switches were also added.

I also have just about got my seating sorted out with a set of wrx sti seats. They fit okay and are the most comfortable seats my arse has ever felt. The driver's side mounts were being painted when this pic was taken.

Image
Image

I have also added a small reservior to the intercooler cooling system that seems to be keeping the temps under control at this stage.

This weekend I've started tackling a bit of the rust and body repairs, which have just got a bit harder, as just after these photos were taken I reached through the window to start the motor, but it was in 1st gear, and it took off and drove itself into the garage!! I ended up jumping in and stopped it, but not before the open door hit a toolbox!! :( big scratch, small dent, but its all fixable, so oh well...

I also took it for a few drives and I must say it goes pretty well!!  I definitely need a wheel alignment done, but the guys who have fitted bigger turbos to these must have shares in tyre companies because mine is standard except for exhaust /inlet and it just wheel spins all over the place - It is on falkens though  (soon to change)

I now just have to do a few little tidying bits and a couple of body repairs and extensive (private  ) road testing and tweaking and its ready for the engineer to approve and get rego!! :D :D :D :D I can't wait.

77 Clubby, forget the D01Js I got a set on the front, they lasted 2 months and were nearly as grippy as I thought they would be. On one extended blat they went from brand new to very much less than brand new, just drove them for the next two months until they looked illegal. I have a set of ZEIX 912 Falkens on the front (and no these are not the normal falkens) and they are brilliant more grip than teh D0's and last longer to boot and they come in 12s.

Cheers

Their the ones I put on the front of the clubby, and they are top tyres 8) , well, for Falkens anyway.... . Give them ago , it will be interesting to see how they handle that sort of power.

Thanks for the tyre tips guys.
I will have to look into those new Falkens. I got a price for yoko semi slicks from a friend in the industry and it was 199 each not fitted!

I guess a lot of stuff is going up that's dependent on the exchange rate. :(

willy - Not sure why I would get the seats retrimmed... I like them and think they will look good once the interior is done.
Also they are there more for comfort and support rather than looks.

Fancy pants: Its a later model UK mini tandem m/c.

Caponix: The seats are not bad width wise. I have a centre console which makes it a little tight for the passenger seat, but the shoulders of the seats dont touch the sides of the car or each other and I get basically full range of movement for the drivers seat - which is very good for a van! The seats are out at the moment as Im making a mess with the bodywork, but rest assured pics will be posted when they're back in.

Righto, another brief update:

Since the previous update I've been working on the body of the van. Its been very exciting as I'm sure everyone who has had a go at this knows!!
:( Most of the repairs concentrated around the back of the car, where there was a bit of rust starting to bubble through. I also had to replace a section of the rear 1/4 just infront of the driver's rear wheel due to rust.
(Plus fix the dent in the door I mentioned in the last update. )

The main Issue I came across was the depth of the paint. One side of the van had 3 layers of primer and yellow which ment once I had wire wheeled down to bare metal on the dodgy areas, I was left with a pretty sizeable dent! :x
But as always, bog to the rescue!

Image

This weekend I hired a compressor and sprayed the top coats, and apart from a couple of dust spots which I think should come out ok, I reckon it looks alright.
I ended up painting both rear quarters, the rear door surround, driver's door, hinges and A panel, and the radiator support panel. I also gave it a bit of a spray over inside the load area, although this wasn't a concern as it will be covered in carpet.

Image

Anyway, now to the real fun of piecing it back together. This is the best bit as it all starts to come together! :D The hardest part is getting all the yellow paint dust off everything!

Good luck with getting all the yellow paint off everything in the garage  I had a mate paint somthing red in his garage and even know everything was plastic sheeted everything still managed to get a red tinge... The garage doors were both down but yep still got the red dust all over them... And man what a shitty job that is getting it off everything.
Your van looks awesome, and yes i agree putting it all back together is definatly the best part!
