i think the loan for the mini will be considerably less than the loan for a house.

besides, a 3rd year apprentice, who is going to loan him enough for a house, especially if he doesnt have a credit history...take a car loan, get a credit history then a few years down the track when he has finished his apprenticeship, he has the credit history he can do what he wants.

just my thoughts :P

this day and age, that's the exact sort of person to whom lenders want to give loans.

my take on that

Back to the original question the best way to check one out is take it to your local BMW dealership and get them to hook it up to their computer and run it for fault codes. If anything is not as it should it will show up then. The entire history of the car is stored in the key and you can learn all you need to know.

Obviously this will cost you but can save you a considerable amount. I did this with a MINI my parents wanted to buy and we discovered the steering rack was on its way out, non BMW dealer had to pay $2000 to get it fixed under warranty.

Forget about a cooper and go for a cooper s if you want to start modifying it. Best bang for your buck will be a smaller supercharger pulley, then cold air intake then exhaust. Depending on what you want to spend then you can go for intercoolers, ecu remaps, strut braces, brakes etc.

Join clubMINI in your state, the info you will get from fellow club members will be invaluable and read mini2.com

Try and get something mid 03 build onwards, earlier models tended to have a few annoying niggles but not all. 04 onwards saw the introduction of a LSD, different gear ratios and new dash layout. Whichever year model you decide on it will be the most fun you can have with your pants on! Good luck.

My BINI is a 2002 Cooper and its the most fun Ive had for a while. Its so nice to drive and always fun :D

All Ive modded so far has been a sports exhaust system and a in dash DVD player (not really looking much into engine mods etc).

BTW the key thing that BMW do is damn interesting! I gave them my car they stuck it in their litle machine and it told them everything, even the fact that hes due for a brake fluid change, thats pretty damn intelligent for a key!

Good luck with whateva you choose, either way you will still have fun!!
