Just to fire this up again, I just measured the BPT and 4WD box in my Son's TX3, 880mm end to end . Now that s the "BG" style of Box, the "BF" type is smaller again.

So this would leave my options wide open.....

4WD BP-T Mini using BG style Box (KH Laser TX3 etc)
4WD BP-T Mini using BF style Box (KF Laser TX3 etc)
FWD BP-T Mini using BG FWD Box
FWD BP-T Mini using smaller and lighter BF FWD Box

Mid Mount BP-T engined Mini using whatever box I want.

Now being 1.8l Turbo I can't register it at all, but It would be fun on tracks, hillclimbs, khana's etc.

The BP is too big and heavy to go in the front but mid mount would be better. I have delt a fair bit with BP-t's mate has one in his improved production mazda 808. They have very weak rods so when it locked up it would have bent it. The turbo and non turbo use same rods and cranks, turbo pistons have more of a dish so lower comp. Crank will be fine .His engine every thing else standard except rods and turbo makes about 210kwatw

Dicko,

Since its for free, go the 4WD route. No sense in doing things by halves is there!!

The BF box would be the pick as its lighter and would fit the Mini better.

Yeah tricky the 4wd option really appeals, and I cant do a "Honda" as I believe thats being done already :D

My No1 Son owes me about what his TX3 is worth so I might just "claim" it as mine

Hmmm

Dicko,

How are we progressing here??

Have you decided on mid-mount RWD or front-mount AWD???

I like the Front Engined AWD route.....just because

No 1 has just sold his TX-3 so need to source gearbox if I go this route, which as we know they're rare as Hens Teeth.

As stated it will be a long build whatever I do. I am now "part owner" of No 2 Son's Clubman so that may well be the source of the body. My Bro has a very nice TX-3 too which he's bound to sell one day. It's been tweaked by BD4's and goes bloody hard.

The dreams are all still there, just a matter of slowly making one a reality.

Dicko.

hey i reckon go for it,,, but bloody heavy ...so smack the boost right up & make the dam thing flow big numbers to get the goods out of it,,, otherwise it will just be another average jap-mini conversion

traction is a good thing so,,, yeah go the 4x4 approach but boost it big & make it flow
