as title suggests..... is it cost related or engineering related?

Expensive motors in OZ and long (I think). Plus there's no turbo!!

But really there should be more. They're a great engine, especially the 1.8

I'd say more because of expense than anything. The length is no prob, and you can legally turbo the B16A

I'm doing a 4G92, which is very similar, makes more power and just because it's different  :D

I have completed a conversion just recently and can say with some authority that both costs and engineering problems are an issue. If a road going registered vehicle is contemplated I would suggest from what I have seen on this site and elsewhere that the Toyota engine would be the most cost effective and present less of an engineering challenge . In my case however the vehicle was primarily built with racing in mind (closed street sprints and hill climbs) and as such I was not constrained by registration requirements ,Aus. Design Rules etc. I had hoped to give it its first outing at the Gatton street sprints last month however a few minor problems with the electrics caused me to miss this meeting .The car is now ready and I hope to give it a run early next month. If you are interested details of the project can be found on my website.

The site has not being updated for a while and does not reflect recent changes or modifications . If you want further details please feel free to P.Msg me.

Are you sure you can legally turbo charge the B16A?

Absolutely positive  You can go up to 1.6 liters turbocharged and i think it something like 1985cc N/A, so basically 2 liters.

I always thought it was 1.5l Forced induction and about 1.8l NA :?

Just found the dotars regs (for WA) relating to max engine capacity:

For vehicles weighing less than 800kg:

NA - Original weight x 3.0 = max swept capacity(cc) = 650(approx) x 3 = 1950cc

Forced - Original weight x 2.5 = max swept capacity(cc) = 650 x 2.5 = 1625cc

So there ya go!! :D 8)
