Hi guys,

Well I'm not sure how to start so I guess this will help ( sorry bout the crappy pics, phone cam ) ---

Image

A Mitsubishi 1.6L 4G92 MIVEC engine. It's my mission, with the aid of Mr. Tricky, to cram this sucker into the bay of my round nose! :D

To give you an idea of performance ---

Type: Transverse in-line 4
Bore x Stroke: 81.0 x 77.5
Capacity: 1597cc
Valve Train: DOHC 16v with MIVEC
Compression Ratio: 11.0:1
Fuel System: (Mitsubishi) Multi-point Fuel Injection
Power: 172Hp at 7500rpm
Torque: 166Nm at 7000rpm

:D It's a ball-tearer of a motor!

Today I started to remove and label the wiring loom... I got bored and went and bought some 2-pak for the rocker cover ---

Image

It's a custom blue with a nice pearl in it, the cam gears are going the same colour

This is as far as my destruction got today ---

The rocker cover's in primer...

Not much else to tell really, except to keep an eye on this one! 8)

I really hope that you can get it to fit without too many worries. I'm sure Tricky can make it work

You never know, 12 months from now everyone might be doing this conversion!

Look forward to seeing it. It'll be interesting to see if it fits as the box is on the same side as the Honda's (which generally causes the space issues).

She'll fit no worries mate!

It's actually not that tight, there's just a lot of extra crap everywhere in the bay! The inlet manifold needs some modification, it's got insanely long runners.

Length wise no prob ~870mm give or take. Once I modify the inlet manfold it shouldn't be much if any wider than a 4EFTE 8) And a lot less junk to cram in :D

I like :D about time someone did a 1.6L, is that the biggest engine we can do in QLD? I thought it was 1.6 forced induction and 1.8 N/A is this correct? :?

1.6 litres forced induction, 2.0 litres normally aspirated!

And well done Sam, look forward to helping get this thing on the road - I think it will hold its own against the 4EFTE conversions and even the VTEC's.

If I ever get bored there's always the possibility to stick the 4G93 1.8 bottom end under it :P

The only other motors around the same capacity that make more power/torque are the B16B, B18C or an SR16VE N1 motor. Try finding one of those for a reasonable price... :?

Off for more destruction...

4G92 MIVEC:

Type: Transverse in-line 4
Bore x Stroke: 81.0 x 77.5
Capacity: 1597cc
Valve Train: DOHC 16v with MIVEC
Compression Ratio: 11.0:1
Fuel System: (Mitsubishi) Multi-point Fuel Injection
Power: 172Hp at 7500rpm
Torque: 166Nm at 7000rpm

B16B Type R:
Displacement: 1595 cc
Compression: 10.8:1
Bore: 81mm
Stroke: 77mm
Rod/Stroke ratio: 1.84:1
Power: 185 hp (137 kW) @ 8200 rpm &
Torque: 118 ft·lbf (160 N·m) @ 7500 rpm

The MIVEC might lose out on horsepower, but it gains it in torque against the 'hot' B16.

It is 200cc smaller than the B18C, so that's an unfair comparison.

And the Nissan:
Displacement: 1.6 L (1596 cc)
Valve Timing: Nissan's Neo VVL variable valve timing with lift control.
Power: 175 PS (129 kW) @7800 rpm
Torque: 119 ft·lbf (161 Nm) @7200 rpm.

Redline is at 8300 rpm.

Once again, loses out on outright hp (just), but gains in torque. This motor is a fantastic swap for the Mini, and will make most of the forced induction lads blush!

Cheers,
Tricky

The thing that made me want this motor was how early it gets to peak power/torque.

.........................4G92..............B16B............SR16
Peak HP:...........7500RPM.......8200RPM......7800RPM
Peak Torque:....7000RPM.......7500RPM......7200RPM

yum :D

Not much else to show for today except I put the basecoat on the rocker cover ---

Image

This kind of shows what it's like. It looks like a heavy metal flake on the pic but it's a fine metallic. I need to lightly sand a few bits of crap off and then a few coats of clear and it should look sweet 8)

$hit if that's what the rocker cover will look like I can't wait to see the rest of the car  8)
