Has anyone had a look at this :

US$7350 and it looks like you get everything you need.

Does anyone want to buy one and get it fitted/engineered, so I won't have to spend as much time or money doing it myself? And then I'd have someone that I could ask questions too.

There is only one VTEC registered Mini in Aust that I know of, and I'm guessing it's not for sale at the moment.

I calculate the cost (in US dollars) as $7350 plus shipping (lets say $8000 delivered), plus engineering around $1500, 12inch wheels $1000, odds and ends $1000, B16A motor around $1000 (there's plenty for sale). I figure the engineering would be a little cheaper than starting from scratch because the kit comes from a factory which has already produced multiple cars.

That adds up to about US $12,500 or AUS$13,889.47, so lets set the budget at AUS$15,000. I already own the car, it cost $6500 and is rust free so needs no significant bodywork other than the engine fit.

So that's a total cost of AUS$21,500.

A quick search on the net found a couple of US cars starting at US$20,500 (AUS$22,799.93). To import it add shipping, taxes, engineering etc you might as well be around the AUS$30,000 by the time it's here and registered.

So, ordering this kit and doing a lot of the work myself appears to me to be the 'cheapest' way of going VTEC. If any of this is unrealistic I'm happy to be told.

This isn't a project I'm starting anytime soon. It's a case of understanding that $20,000 would get me a pretty sweet and comfortable 2008 Honda or a 1990+ Honda motor in a 1967 Mini that could possibly be a death trap.

I'm not sure I'd spend that much money either.

ohh and you say u can get a B16A motor around $1000 does it need a rebuild? etc. and at $21,500 you would only have a stock motor so to do it up would cost 2-3k maby. so at $21,500 its just a mini with a vtec so if u want a death trap i would say about $24,000+

Unfortunately in SA, not sure about thoer states, but none of this engine changing is to be taken as a precedent. Basically every car needs to be individually engineered and is put under the same treatment, regardless if anyone else has got one regoed. I've found this out about my Starlet project.

As for asking questions for sure, that's why I'm doing the 4EFTE, there's a bloke who's very knowledgeable on the subject down here.

Oh one more thing, be careful with these Vtec kits, although they may appear great (and probably are!) I'm not sure if they'd be legal here. Someone was advertising a UK (I think) sourced kit for sale on here as they could not get it regoed. Possibly due to track related issues. I know they are funny about track here in SA too.
