ok havent updated for a while as funding has been a draw back.... but today i built up the stand for the engine. My plan is to build a stand making it horizontal and level and the right height for the driveshafts etc then finish cutting away the rear of the shell and drop the shell over the top then raise the shell to the right height and i can set up my wooden mockup after its all in place :D. And it would make it easier to work on the engine since i never got around to buying an engine stand

bought some cheapo steel from bunnings and headed to my mates place.....

First thing i did was bolt some steel to each corner approx, 2 above the gearbox on each side, one near the oil filter and one near the water pump and then bolted/weld steel tubes straight down cut to the height i want. you can see this one above the gearbox and the other one slighty too
Image

made sure it was all level :P

then set it to the right height using bricks and cut bits of wood

after that all i had to do was use the engine crane to take the weight of each corner one at a time and replace it with a piece of metal and its pretty much done
Image

because i was in a rush to leave i didnt get a pic of the finished stand but i will when i go back tomrrow. also im going to add bracing around the base and each corner to make sure it doesnt rock or move...i was thinking of putting it on wheels but i dont want it rolling aroung when im trying to attach the mounts or anythign else

and excuse the quality of the pics i only had my phone with me

cheers!

I also originally was cutting the back out with the 9 inch angle grinder but it was too heavy and dangerous for me so ive borrowed a plasma cutter from my uncles and it slices through it like its not there so cool! but still dangerous so must be careful.

Will be cutting out the rest of the rear tomorrow and get more pics up.
I've also painted and cleaned the engein with aluminium spray paint and i thought it looked pretty good but need to get pics of it still as its at my mates place. Plus i have build the subframe jig based on matt's design...very strong and well designed!
http://www.mpdesign.id.au/engineconvers ... rsion3.htm

my new rear will look like this http://www.simon-stubbs.co.uk/v8mini.html and ill be modifying the subframe like the guys do when the put the engien in the front except ill have a lot more room to play with and wont have to be squashed :P...if that makes sense?

will be updating again tomorrow!!

cheers

hey all!

still going at it im switching over to a vtec though since it'll make life much easier with no turbo and ive got a mate who knows jsut about every single detail on the engine too :P. the design will stay the same im just working on the shell and subframe atm making it all schmick before buying the engine because i dont want it to sit around gathering dust

so dont stress people its still going ahead just switching to honda!

might grab some pics tomorrow to show the subframe its going well i can only work on it on weekends now though
