talk about bringing an old thread to life haha, i got a few questions about making my brake lines, for those of you in my area - ish do you know where i could find someone to supply me the gear like fittings e.t.c

question 2

i bought new flexi brake pipes and the fronts dont fit in properly, cold it just be the old fittings and stuff not being up to scratch or are the new lines a diferent depth or something? cheers guys hope this makes sense.

oh one more, would mini king sell the fittings? or would a brake place be a better idea?

Somebody wise once told me that brake lines are not a good place to learn flaring and double flaring on for the first time - a crap flare could mean trouble.

Pirtec will supply you with the tubing (a green zinc? plated AS type) and if you take off your old pipes and fittings and give them to them they'll fit identical new fittings and will bend the pipes for you. When I asked for a quote it seriously wasn't much more than the price of tubing and fittings alone. Just make sure you mention that its for a mini resto and keep mentioning your mini throughout the conversation (capitalise on the goodwill).

cheers, blake

Blake,

In the past I have taken the old lines, complete with connectors to a clutch & brake shop and they will bend a new steel pipe to the original shape with the correct new connectors. Last time I paid about $30 per line complete with the correct connectors each end. I have also just used a bended piece of wire in the shape of the line I need as a template.

regards

$6.60 for 6 metre length of 4.6mm bundy
$1.25 per male thread connector

Sounds like my next DIY job.
