No , but I'm going to start collecting all the two cents that get mentioned here to give to Poeee for the running of ausmini , it'll be running at a profit soon at this rate

P.S. And as Ken said, hairdressers are hot, which has nothing to do with this discussion!

Every time I hear of hairdressers I'm reminded of a young engineer I worked with , I hadn't been going out with my (now) wife long and he came out with the line "you shouldn't date someone smarter than yourself , they'll only make you look like an idiot" , to which I replied "Ahh Matt , So that's why you dumped Sharon (hairdresser who'd been breathing too many bleach fumes  ) "

Anyway , back to the topic , I've ridden in a standard Proton Satria Gti and it was impressive , if it fits it would be a great choice , get the tape measure out and see .

I only one guy who owns a Proton, and he was born in Malaysia, so he kinda felt the need to own one.

I too have heard the GTi is impressive, but I've never actually seen one on the roads, I have a feeling they are quite rare. Which could mean big price tags for motors.

I did some research last night on the prices of various motors and pretty well just discovered that some import places are expensive and some aren't.

But it seems Honda B16A are over priced, great engine, but high prices aren't justified when there was a type R version, which sells for even more again.

But for N/A motors, local cars would be the cheapest which leaves, the Excel, EP91 Starlet, Corolla, Civic, Golf, Barina, Swift....etc etc.

I still believe there are better options out there, but since no one (that I've heard of) has done one, I think it should be done, if it fits of course.

Slinkey,

Where did you get your info on the Golf? That would be interesting! Have a look at the new Golf GTi - scare the pants off you!

http://www.newsik.net/cars/only-models/top-news/related/VW-Golf-GTI-W12-10998692.html

Proton Satria are a good motor, based on the 4G63 Lancer (in fact the Satria is an actual Lancer platform!)

Like Ian said, get the tape measure out and try your luck.

Also, early model Civic's running D-series engines are excellent - 1.6 litre N/A twin-cam with 134hp standard - with the usual Honda reliability and performance enhancement ability.

I think thats $0.06 (Ian, cheque OK?)

Tricky

Whoa! 650hp Golf!

I was more talking along the lines of a Golf GTi, 4 cylinder....hehe. There is a new turbo and supercharged engine, but I'm sure getting a hold of one of those will cost anyone a lot!

I was thinking of an older 4 cylinders.
Such as a 1993 Golf GTi 16v, 1.8L, 150hp. 1.8L is a tad big though. Or the 1988 model had 139hp. Not sure of the credibility of this info, but shouldn't be too far off.

The Rover K-series, seems like a nice solid engine, not strictly high performance in standard from, but some high performance version were made, like a turbo one and the best, the Lotus version, which made 177hp from a 1.8L. Which I imagine was for the Lotus Elise. They also made a 103hp 1.4L and a 75hp 1.1L. Although these would be very common in the UK, would be scarce here, appart from the MGF engines.

There is a huge range of under 2 litre, FWD 4 bangers around, and pretty well an ulimited supply (relatively speaking) of different alternatives to fit into a Mini.

Since the VW Golf has been mentioned, has anyone measured up a VR6 engine? It's probably far too big, but I can dream...

Back down to earth now, as the Vauxhall conversion is so popular in the UK has anyone tried using the Holden versions? ie the C16XE from the barina/astra or the C20XE from the calibra?

I've thought about a Barina, but I image an Astra would be better. I know they've made a 2.0L astra, but that would probably be a bit too big, but what about the twincam 1.8 or 1.6, not sure exactly which one?

Just a note, the Honda D series can fit a roundnose! As seen on http://www.superfastminis.com which seems impressive until you watch the videos (and look at the pictures) of the supercharged 2.0L K series Honda engined mini......
