well I guess untill someone gets a 7 port into there hands and on a flow bench its all just rumour, I remember hearing the same things said about the 8 ports in the early days and that proved to be very wrong, I remember when Neil Mason first fitted an 8 port to his sports sedan quote " from 0-6000 I cant tell any dif but from 6 -10,000 farken hell "

hi, happened across this thread by chance.

I have a 7 port, although its not yet running,

I can confirm that the inlt ports have been made smaller by about 5-6mm,

Bascally where as they used to take 45mm carbs they are now cast for 40's, as cast the ports in mine were 39mm at the face.

I had the head work done by stuart gurr at vmax scart.

here is a link to my project, note it has a turbo.

I've heard of none... but-

My 2c- why pay freight etc on a `yet to be proven' cast iron head from UK, when you can have a CNC machined 8 port alloy head, with porting developed by Graham Russell, made here in Oz.... 8)
It's called an Elder.

I was reading a book about the design of the A-series engine. The book includes an interview with Mr W.V. Appleby the Chief Designer, Power Units, BMC.
He talks about the design of the A-series and says this about the ports...
Quote:
We have never found any disadvantage in using a siamezed inlet port, In fact it appears to have an advantage in that the volume of the induction system is less than that of separate ports, and therefore can be a quicker response to any demand from the accelerator. A siamezed exhaust port, however, is not desirable, and its disadvantages can only be overcome by using first-class exhaust materials.

So according to the original designer the exhaust port is the weak spot. So the 7 port head must be a good design because it gives more power and still manages to keep the weak spot. 8)

What he's saying is technospeak for "the #2 and #3 exhaust valves run hotter" with the siamesed port. This is true and I've heard it before, by others... can't remember who. Phil Irving maybe?
