Graham Russell grinds a 266 equivalent. I have that in the sunshine and it is on power basically from the word go. smooth running and this is the cam that Graham will reccomend to anyone that wants a smooth daily.

Spaceboy (ryan i think) you raise a valid point about it perhaps being a little less ideal to traffic etc as that of many other cams... but i have a RE13 in my 998 and and it idles really well in traffic and there is not a whole lot down low, but i think that would change markedly in a 1098 that has just that bit more torque down low.

Spraycansarcasm, i think by the sounds of it, you will be fine with the RE13, but just be aware that if you dont want a slightly lumpy (and really the idela is not bad as long as your car is tuned properly..... )cam go with the 266, but the RE13 will give u much more fun up top. I have both and I love both cams, but the small bore and RE13 is my daily and it goes really well. Just be aware that the 266 would give u more down low and be less lumpy .

This is the exact reason you need to get the cam that suits YOU.

Ryan...one cam doesn't suit all and you do have to sacrifice some down low to get more up high - raise the idle to 1200-1400 and it will idle nicely and work well in traffic. I know what traffic is, Adelaide doesn't compare to Sydney's 1.5hr traffic jams!

The RE-13 in a 1098 still doesn't have earth wrenching torque - but it has plenty more power than a stocko 998 at any point in the rev range and that's enough for what it was built for.

I'm over the RE-13 - I want something even wilder next build :D bring on the 282 - if we ever get it back :(

Ryan is it supercharged in that vid??

I find when cold, idle at 2000rpm is good (with choke) as the air is cold, and it gets preignition.

You car, sounds a lot like my Dad's clubby. It has a 'lumpy' cam, as the last owner says, its not a powerful car but the 'lumpiness' is very obvious. Much different to my car. Although it seems much lumpier at idle now with the charger for some reason.

With the charger, the idle is beautiful at around 1100rpm. Under 1000rpm is just too dam low.

I mean my car will physically stay going at 600rpm (any lower and it dies after a while), but when you go to take off it doesn't want to go, needs to rev it up before trying to drive off.

Thanks guys, I'm sort of half and half at the moment as I was talking to my mini contact who I buy all my engine parts from and he builds them too and he was going to recommend the cam I have at the moment before I even told him what I had. He also suggested that I run around a 3.7 diff (i think). The RE-13 sounds nice, and I'm not worried about the lumpy idle, thats what I want! Soo i'm half and half whether I'm going to get the RE or stick what I have in...

O and I'm not worried about sacrificing power below around 4000 rpm I just dont want it to be 'undrivable' below those revs.. i guess thats what I was worried about.

yeah sounds like you want the re-13

i do find running a bit more idle revs helps when clutching out from a standstill but too much and i get a headache.

Fair enough.

I don't mind noises, and such. I'm used to it. I just turn the radio up more.

But I'm probably killing my ears, I've always had ringing in the ears (even without the radio on.) after a long drive, meh, it's a Mini, and I love it. 8)

Go the BINI Turbo - you want refinement and power - go that.

with our RE13 in a 1100 with the idle around 1100 and sits in traffic on Parra Road during peak hour...Yes this cam is drive able...you just need to have it Tunned properly.

I agree Mini Mad...I'd Love to put a 282 in the motor next

If you want to know about loud... come for a drive in Jenna.
The exhaust is fine, its got a great muffler but I have no interior (no carpet, no seats (except driver) and no insulation... man... talk about loud!
