Take out the studs from the back of the head while the engine is in the car if you are having trouble fitting/removing the extractors.

Thats all I did when I changed the exhaust on a previous mini. There was enough room with the studs, so I removed them to remove the exhaust, and put them back in once I had the extractors back in the right position.
