I figured it was something like that Doc, but, combined with line boring everything, well... Mini-dunger asked if it was all needed. For a basic rebuild, offset boring... Not needed, just wanted. 8) It all sounds pretty high spec - and there's nothing wrong with building a strong engine. Better to build a super strong bottom end and under utilize it than build a cheap bottom end and try to flow massive power. I was just wondering what Mini-dunger's definition of need was. Is it to be a fast engine, a solid engine, or a lightly tuned engine? It's needed if this is to be the fastest small bore in SA, but if it's just to give reliable transport, offset boring isn't needed. :)
I was wondering about the spec of the engine, because, with the offset boring, full balance, etc, it sounds like a quote for a fast engine, which may not be exactly what Mini-dunger wants - he might be able to live with something less, given the price doesn't sound like what he wants to hear. :)

Ok I rang up and asked for a quote to have the engine bored, decked, hot tanked and new cam bearings pressed in. Thats what i think i need for my application.

I am not a tight ass I just dont think I can justify spending around 5k for an overworked 1100 that would be no better than tired 1275 that I could pick up for 1200beans. The mob i contacted are well respected and I am sure the do awesome work. But I am not a club racer or a serious mini guy.
I have a fast car and its not a mini and I am fine with that. I was planning on about a grands worth of machining in the whole engine, plus parts and a gearbox. I just want something that will rev a bit and be reliable is all.
