With mine I used the mini loom for lights and gauges then added the starlet loom in to run engine and fuel pump and fan. The easiest way to do it if your mini loom is still OK. The temp switch that turns on the fan is normally closed so when it reaches the required temp it goes open circuit this is then connected to a relay which is also normally closed and so drops out when temp is reached and turns on the fan. If that makes sense , the computer doesn't control the fan.

my mini loom is in absolute shambles! :? its been cut and modified and cut and modifed again and again.. I dont think its worth the trouble. Last time I checked the wires.. they weren't in too good nick either. I'll try what Dan told me and see how I go. I want to keep one type of loom as much as possible.
Dan - Any kind of diagram with colour codes etc would be really appreciated. :P

One small question : there was a sensor downstream of the original Cat converter. Where did you guys place that? downstream of your aftermarket cat? ( did you guys run a wire from halfway under the car?)

Cheers

Pub you can ditch the second one it is a sensor on the actual cat converter itself and basically alerts you to when it is cactus. Just keep the actual O2 sensor otherwise you have all sorts of fun...

Cheers

Matt

Hi Pub,

Yes, Matt is correct, its a cat overtemp sensor and its not really needed.

Cheers,
Tricky

Hi guys,

Need your winsdom again.. does anyone know what this is??? ( picture below)

Image

The one of the left is the stock fuel filter I'm pretty sure since it seemed to connect to the fuel rail when i got the half cut. This line was chopped in half when I got it.

The one of the right.. I have no idea. Looks like some fuel tank vaopur pressure gadget since it connect to a line which comes from the back of the car. It has a vacuum type solenoid attached at the bottom and also has two very small lines going from it to the intake plenum as seen in the picture. What is this and do I need it?

I spread out the wiring harness on the shed floor last nite.. doesnt look that bad with a diagram in hand. Looking at the internal loom, I can take out the door delay chime box, door control box and wiring??? is this correct? also there seems to be another black controller box in the A/C branch. Is this the A/c controller box? can I take this off too?
When I say take off, I mean I'm going to take off the insulation and trace back the wires to their source and nip it there. Seems like a lot of wiring to get rid of! wont be much left after this! :?

Uploaded some more pics on to picasa.. have a look if interested

Cheers fellas!

All correct, you can remove all of those items. The item on the right is the pollution canister. You do not need it but my engineer wanted it in, so it is in the boot with hoses coming off and going .......

Thanks Dan

By the looks of it you removed a crap load from the outside loom as well!
There is a seperate box containing two relays AC fan No2 & AC fan no3 Whats the deal with these? can I chop them off?

The main big relay box has already got a relay for the "fan" ( i'm assuming this is the one I want to keep) and there are two more in there called A.C MG and A.C fan!!! how come so many relays for the A/C??? can I get rid of these too???

You relay box is slightly different to mine :? but the idea should be the same I guess.

Cheers for all the help ( more needed! )

Yes you can remove these relay's.

I pulled out only one relay from the box, i'll have to see which one- if i remeber correcty the fan relay stayed.

You relay box is slightly different to mine but the idea should be the same I guess.

Correct.

Dan

In SA you will need to use the carcoal canister and any other emission stuff but there isn't much else just crankcase breathers
One small pipe goes to the fuel tank breather and other goes to the soleniod this turns on when engine is in vacume and closes when on boost and not running so it sucks the fuel vapours into the engine and not letting them excape to atmosphere.

Guys,

Need your advise :

I have stripped the wiring loom and everything seems ok. Hopefully I havent cut out anything major! :?

Finishing of little bits here and there but the subframe will go in the car this week.

Getting some brake pistons turned up from Stainless steel to replace the original ones since the chome plating on some of them have strted to come off due to corrosion underneath.. this cant be good for sealing

When I got the discs, I got a set of metro hubs as well. I know the metro hubs are different to mini hubs ( they increase the kingpin inclination?) and give wider track?. This should help with wider wheels.

I do have adjustable bottom arms so I am thinking of fitting the metro hubs instead. Do the metro hubs take the same brearings as the standard mini ones ( Timken Tapred?) Currently it has two sets of ball bearings.

I started off another tread trying to get some info on wheels but I'll ask it here about fitting 15" wheels. Has it been done and would it improve traction due to the increased contact patch?

Cheers fellas :)

Bearings are the same as mini bearings.

Mini start to look like hot wheels cars when you put wheels on that are too big.
