Good to hear, Craig. I think 60 idle jets seem big, but see how you go.
9 turns out sounds a lot but they are very fine threads, unlike a Weber.
Hammill's Weber & Dellorto book says the most you should need on a Dellorto is 5-1/2 turns out. If more, you need bigger idle jets.

I haven't got my jets yet, but I noticed a few new things about it that might give a clue as to what the problem is.
1. The hesitation is back now. The first 1500rpm it goes strong, then really stumbles badly from 2000 to 2500 rpm or so. The harder I press the pedal, the worse it stumbles, almost to the point of stalling out the car. Then once over 2500 to 3000 it goes strong with full power and no miss.

2. The fuel cuts out on hard right hand corners to the point where the car is just coasting. When the road straightens out, the fuel comes back in spurts and the car jerks a few times until full power is back on. This is new to my car and never happened before the rebuild.

Does the cut-out at 2000 rpm (consistently) sound like immulsifier tubes, idle jets or a pump problem? I've got fuel squirting into the venturi from the pump jets.

73GT, did you find anything that caused your right hand turn fuel cutting?

thanks,
Craig

Check the float level... it sounds low to me.

I know its a long shot - but what fuel pump are you running - mechanical or lecky?

I ask as the mechanical one probably wont be able to keep up with your heavy foot...lol

If not running a leckky pump - grab one that puts out 3-5psi..I recklon though it is fuel starvation in hard corners. Confirm you are cornering on 4 wheels or 2??

Hooroo

I got the floats at 15mm measured from the top cover gasket. Electric fuel pump on adjustable regulator set to 3 - 3.5 psi. Maybe the extra fuel useage will require me to up the pressure?

Also I had 1.5 float needle and now have 2.0. Maybe that's too big and I'm getting surging and splashing in the float bowl. I also have a 1.75 needle, so might try that one.

Hey Jai, yes the Dyno would help me out. Not too many dynos around here though.javascript:emoticon':('

Doing well here. How are the family and business? Hi to Liam and Belinda.

I've got 60 idle jets and 55 pump jets and 37 chokes coming, so between those, float levels and fuel pressure, hopefully I'll be able to tune it to run right.

Craig

Update: I installed my 37mm chokes (up from 34) and Kevin's stub stacks on my Ramflo filter housing. That made a difference in how much power it was getting, but it still stumbled. I also played with my idle adjustment screws and got them down to 3 turns out with the new large chokes. That's more like it!

The next thing I did was to play with float settings. At 15mm, it stumbled and cut out around hard right corners. It also did this at 16mm. At 14.5mm, it was better but still cut out on acceleration. I left it at 14.5mm. Next, I installed 60 idle jets. The stumble on acceleration is now 95% gone. The 60 idles were the key. I thought they might be too big, and Kevin did too, but my dellorto must be thirsty. The transition from idles to mains is seamless now, and the stumble on acceleration can be corrected by giving the pedal a quick punch before taking off from a stop. That must get the fuel up into the pump jets. I have some 55 pump jets that I might try, but I can definitely live with it now.

It's got loads more power than ever before, and it just wants to go harder and more than my gearbox can let it.

I'm finally getting it tuned in to where I've wanted it for years!

Good to hear Craig you are getting it nutted. Try the 55 pumps - it cant hurt and the dyno will definitely sort it out. My Clubman used to only stumble when I was going around slow LH turns(30-40kpk)and a quick pump of the pedal got it good again.

Dellorto/Weber carbs are fun...dont let anyone else tell you otherwise...lol

Good luck and keep us informed of developments
