Does anyone know if a bigger alternator can be fitted to a mini?
I am installin a dual bettery setup in mine and i want to upgrade
the alternator to suit..
So does anyone know if another type of alternator will fit? Or
what has to be done to make a higher amp alternator fit? I was
told to try to fit the biggest one possible 120amp....ish

Search in Mods forum, a Bosch 75A off a Nissan Pulsar is pretty easy to fit.
A few people on here run 'em.

125A? That's a freakin' welder....

Yes, but its Lucas. What cars had them? Have you actually seen it done? Someone once told me an overdrive would bolt on the back of a Triumph gearbox....it doesn't. I am always sceptical of "it'll fit" stories after that.

Yep. 45 amp. I think I'll find a Bosch or buy a new Ingrams. I will mount it when the motor is on the bench and save a lot of hassles and swearing. I reckon that 100 amps will cover future add ons like audio etc.

well im tryin to get the biggest alternator i can find that i can get on there, there will one day be a big audio system added to the car, thats why im installing the dual bettery setup and i want both of the optima yellow tops to be charged... And the more amps the more power THE LOUDER it should go(and the more crap i will blow up :D)
I think i will have to wait til the motor is together and in and runnin to see what i cant make fit.. any more info on what will go on would be much appreciated..
And id rather stay away from lucas as it shits me to tears

Hmmm... wouldn't the Cummins be 24V, like most trucks? they would take some swinging over at 12V..

My Cummins alternator was 12 volt, but it was big!

Why bother with a bigger alternator? It only makes the car go slower! When I was racing I used to look for the smallest alternator that would do the job.

Remember at 160 kph you can't hear the radio

i have a 1 farad soundstream capacitor already.... if i were going to upgrade the capacitor i woundnt only go a 2.4 cap i wouldnt muck around i would go a 25 farad cap either soundstreen or rockford fosgate... prob the rockford to stay the same as the rest of the setup

and Morris 1100 you have a very good point indeed... i would be very happy if my mini would be abe to go 160kph, but also the sound this stero setup puts out i would be able to hear it doing whatever speed i am doing
