Most 02 MINI's will have had their problems sorted out by now. Having said that I recently purchased a cooper s for my dad and we stayed clear of all 02's and got a mid 03, same year as mine.

For every fault thread you read you must remember there are thousands who have had no dramas, people just dont post to say my car is running great after so many years.

Good luck with the search, once you have a MINI it will be the best fun you have had with your pants on!

Did the Coopers have the same faults as the Cooper S? We are in the process of buying a Cooper and I dont want to buy one if it has faults

thanks for the replies guys! Is there a log somewhere that shows the changes between the minis from year to year? I'm currently a BMW owner and I know from year to year the feature lists change a fair bit. Just don't want to miss out on any of the extra goodies as don't mind paying the extra for them.

Check out the model specific forums on MINI2.com, there is a lot of information about the various models

Reading through this forum they don't seem so "bullet proof". It's got me a little worried now

Of course in a forum like that you're only going to get people posting when there is a problem, not when everything is going OK :).

They are pretty bullet proof, there are no major problems with them at all.

My Cooper S is still for sale, it's a bloody great car, but 3 people with one car isn't too practical, so it must go as we cant cut it down the middle.

We have ditched the run flats when we changed the rims. Always serviced by BMW had the problems of expansion tank cracked-repaired under warrenty, also had a new power steering pump installed so no more funny noise like other Mini's when you tunr the wheel. So many extras and price is neg. PM for details or an inspection, we can deliver to Brisbane :-)

I hear if you dont use run flats it makes your car unroad worthy...

I just bought my Cooper S, great car, sold my WRX to buy one.

Congrats on the purchase :D

If there is any truth to the unroadworthiness comment, there are a lot of unroadworthy MINIs out there as only a tiny percentage of owners buy runflats when they need new tyres.
