Ok... called up the powdercoaters today.
I asked what is going on with them.
They said its the casting of the metal that made it bubbly (absolute crap).

And they would like $60 for the work.
He said that covers the cost of the sandblasting.

:evil:

I said i'd call him back with what I wanna do.

Oh, and he said to strip them (strip only) would cost $200. LOL.

So I don't know what to do...

They have a set of ruined Contessas (LS offset x2 and Mini offset x2)
and I have no wheels.

They claim it is not their fault.
They are blaming the type of alloy.
"Old wheels can sometimes do this, although we have never seen any like this".

Why would powder coat bubble unless it wasn't clean to start with?

In my experience willy I would refuse to pay a cent, if they want to argue you can refer the trade practices act which covers you in that they did not provide the service/product that you paid for (to powdercoat your wheels to an acceptable finish).

To say that it's the alloy is the problem then this is obviously something they have experienced before and should have warned you about before accepting the work.

The business has the money to cover the loss and return the wheels to a state where you can re-finish in an alternate method (painting). If they want you to pay then talk to your local consumer affairs dept.

Daniel

Okay I think i'll head down to the powdercoaters to let them know, but I'll need something to put me in the mood first.

I'll wait till I have finished with an annoying customer then do it :P

If they think they can win me over, they are wrong.

Thanks for the advice Daniel

Be cool and calm when you talk to them and when you don't get what you want take out a note pad and pen and ask how to spell his surname. when he asks why just say you want it right for Current Affair when you contact them. Pick up a business card if they have them on the counter and make a lot of notes ( pretend if you have to) If you want to you can say you have contacts at Channel 9 - ( my neighbour works there and he organised a story on swimming pools in our street- another story) :wink:

That is terrible mate :(

Dont pay a cent, you asked for a particular service to a particular "standard" (The finish to the wheels.)

Trade Standards Act 1979 wrote:

"standard" means—
(a) a safety standard; or

(b) a quality standard; or

(c) an information standard; or

(d) a packaging standard;

You did not receive what you asked for and what you were willing to pay for therefore it is their responsibility to fix their mistake.

Trade Standards Act 1979 - Section 30 wrote:

Quality standards

(3) Quality standards may—

(a) regulate the design, construction, composition, materials, contents, finish, performance or other characteristics of goods;

(b) regulate the nature and quality of services and the manner in which they are to be supplied;

(c) make any other provision relating to the quality of goods or services.

If they refuse to co-operate, remember the Office for Business and Consumer Affairs are just a phone call away. If you let them know that, i am sure that they will co-operate with any of your reasonable requests, especially if you quote the above.

Office of Consumer and Business Affairs Website wrote:
Unhappy with your purchase or the service you received?
The Office of Consumer and Business Affairs (OCBA) can assist with complaints where the goods and services are advertised and purchased in South Australia. Remember: You may contact the Office of Consumer and Business Affairs at any stage should you need advice.

Best of luck with the wheels

Matt
