Did the Rover minis have another way of bolting the front subframe to the front of the shell?, ie the bolt going through from the front of the mini and through the subframe hole?

If not i'm in trouble...

What is your problem? I know they are rubber mounted, but unsure whether they were at the front??

Yes..you need the rubber spacers for the front mounts.

I have a replaceent UK panel on the front of my clubman and as such my subframe is rubber mounted at the front. without the spacers there is a half inch gap there.

Take this front - notice there are no holes to put the bolt through.




And then see it FULLY PAINTED!!!!! What do i do!?!?!

you can just make out the tow hooks connected to the subframe on this sportspack rover..not sure whats going on with your panel but all the ones i have seen have holes..

Do the new panels come like that or did someone cover them up?

It kind of is like a rear beaver panel with the later cutouts.....

I've had a close look and the guy i bought it off has bogged up the holes. I was so keen and eager to paint her i didn't even check.

Anyways, water under the bridge i suppose. I was wondering how big these rubber mounts were. I was thinking i could make up some secondary brackets and weld them on with maybe a welded nut or enough room to get a ring spanner and nut in. This would take the space of the rubber and mount it up like normal minis. How does that sound?

When you get the paint shop to re-open the holes, tell them to paint inside the engine bay at the same time.

It's like a cheap version of a deseamed mini modification.
It's been deholed.

Looks good though, probably best done, after it's all bolted in!. Or not at all (best option). Afterall, smoother is better, but being able to bolt your subframe on is even better again!

I bought the whole shell basically ready to paint. Subframe was already out. I looked over it, looked good so i painted it. Does anyone know the thickness of these rubber mounting spacers?

From memory I think the late model "teardrop" mounts are a couple of centremeters thick.

You may be able to bolt them onto the subframe before you lift it into place then bolt them to the body once the subframe is in place. But you would be in trouble if you ever had to replace it - and the metal pieces do occasionally de-laminate from the rubber centre (just like engine mounts)
