Is it into a moke? If so, I don't know that a GTI motor will fit into a moke. I don't know that it can't, just know that the gti motor tilts forward a fair bit and the moke doesn't have the same amount of room as a mini.

How much of the conversion do you want done?

Things to consider....

Do you want just the frame built or do you need the gearchanger assembly modified, alternator bracket, radiator mounted, fueling, exhaust and driveshafts made too? Consider electrical too.

Having said that Archangle007 can make you a frame and can do all the other stuff too.

[EDIT: Endorsement removed after reciept of negative feedback] has done a few engine conversions. He [EDIT: may have been farmed out to another] completed a 4EFTE for a customer before Christmas. He [EDIT: as above] also has a 4AGE in a sub frame sitting by the counter at his shop. I know he [EDIT: I don't know "he" did it] has done G13B conversions before, but not in a Moke.

He is not cheap, but why should he be?!
He has a tame engineer that he works with to get conversions approved.
He appears to be grumpy, but he's actually good value to talk to.
His welding skills are top shelf.

You can't have him work on your car until mine's finished....

[EDIT: name removed to comply with forum rules on unfavourable feedback]

What do you want to do with your Moke, relaxed cruising/eceonomy, off roading or make it a street screamer?

With a Moke you have less room, but you may have the option of extending the front forward of the subrame. Since it's all flat panels it would be a simple job for a skilled welder and won't be too noticeable. With a nose stretch a Suzi GTi should fit.

Britek Automotive in Cairns fitted a Daihatsu Charade 1Litre Turbo Diesel into a Moke with only minor body mods. Where the diesel fits, the petrol turbo may fit too?

I've been looking at Nissan Micra and Echo/Yaris VVTi engines as transplant candidates for a Moke. The 1.5 Echo/Yaris looks very compact, has the same power as the Suzi GTi and low mileage examples are easier to find. The Nissan Micra 1275cc also looks like a good candidate, but only 55kw stock. The import 1.0 "Super-Turbo" Micra/March version had a turbo and supercharger! But all the piping makes it less compact.

Some food for thought anyway.

Yeah, yellow IIRC. I think he said he picked it up from the NSW Central Coast somewhere.

NSW far north coast , I sold it to him 3 or so years ago and he reckoned he'd have it finished in time for the next muster .... It came from the Currumbin area and was bought by a mate who got in the proverbial for buying another mini so I bought it for the same as he paid . It seriously has no floor from the tailgate to the firewall but the ute panels are all saveable to good and just needs a van floorpan as a donor . I had too many mini's and other projects so ebayed it and got $200 more for it than I paid , I just couldn't bear cutting up a van to fix it .... Interestingly it's hydro suspension though there were supposed to be no commercials with hydro , it's history is unknown apart from spending 10 years in a shed rusting ....

Last I saw it it was sitting out the back of his workshop.... sitting.... rusting more. I'm sure by the time he gets around to doing anything with it it'll just be rust holding hands.

Some Echo 4 door sedans and all the Sportivo three doors from the introduction had the 1.5 VVTi engine. Base models had the 1.3. The 2006 onwards Yaris has the same engine too. A bit of digging on carsales.com.au or similar should yield exact models and performance figures.

A mate who works at the auctions reckons it would cost me $1500-2000 for a rear or side hit Echo Sportivo with intact drivetrain. I've also seen one on eBay for $2500 running and driving with a hard rear hit.

I guess the importers should have these engines by now, but I haven't really looked into it too seriously. Just poked under some bonnets with a tape measure. (The car dealers give you funny looks when you do that! )
