Well, finally got Candy running well and got some good weather so I decided to take her down to the drags. It was a bit of a learning experience as I have not gone there before in a mini. took a few goes to get the start right. Amusing the reaction I got from the commentators and crowd being the only mini there, became the crowd favourite apparently as my mate tells me. I got a few vids so i'll post them soon.

Pulled a 17.357 first up @ 126.38 km/hr
then a 17.604 @ 125.07 km/hr
followed by 17.468 @ 125.49
then the best of the night 17.301 @ 126.93 km/hr

The clutch stop came loose about then, and 3rd gear became a little un co operative. hence my next run, I was unable to get third, so a 20.00, followed again by not using 3rd at all and going straight from 2nd to 4th still getting an 18.938 @ 113.68km/hr. Terrible shame because I had my starts sorted by then, and was doing well till the 330ft mark. :( Still, it was good fun!! :D

I'm hoping on breaking into the high 16's next time after I sort my clutch operation and gear lever slopiness, and put some decent tires other than the old cheesecutters on. Also carby needs a bit of tweeking too, not been tuned properly since the rebuild.

BTW: Candy spec is: 1380, Wade 140 Cam, Weber 40DCOE, LCB extractors, 4.11 diff, 10" cheesecutters :) ....

The road tests mostly say 18.1.
My mate's stock 1275S did a 17.9 at Castlereagh dragway back in the early 70s.
My Fiat 124 Sport then did about the same.

Sorry if it's a bit big, but i've quickly put a video together to show you guys 5 of my runs last night.

My mate Terry ( you perth guys will remember him from april drags last year and the dyno day 73.5hp BRG roundie) struggled a bit with the camera setting at first but it gets better after the first 2..

Enjoy. I did!

Hehe,

It was a bit mismatched. :( But I managed to beat a couple up to 60 foot mark, which was good. The first car was a Vl turbo, then I think I had 2 races against a white lexus/toyota turbo thingy. Had my arse kicked by the rex, but that was expected. then that little diahatsu at the end I should have beat if third gear was a little more willing.

Alot of the cars there were getting ready for Motorvation on the weekend. Alot of 12 second passes were being done.. And sme very impressive machines too. One guy on aa huyabussa (however you spell it!) did an 12 sec pass on his back wheel and still won his race!!

hey looks like you beat off the dihatsu. it almost looks like your driving a remote control car out there.

I can remember reading in hot4's once about a mini that could do pretty quick times, high 11's comes to mind, I could be wrong. But im sure with the right stuff a mini could win.

the main problem is the people who go to the drags bring fast cars and modified ones, so even if your mini was fast or modified, you'd still be pushing s&%# uphill
