Is this something that can be done?

Would it make the mini quieter and take a power loss out of the drivetrain?

Austin 1800 automatic used a Hy-Vo chain there, it gave lots of trouble... according to a mate who owned one.
Warwick Agustin campaigns a quick Mini racer with a 4AGE Toyota in it, it drives the Mini box with a chain. So yeah, might be possible. Dunno about chain life though, for a road car.

the reason i asked it that because of Warwick Agustin's 4age...

it looked like it would get power to the ground a lot better...ie less loss.. :?
and there's belts and chains used all over the place in engine bays...


question asked, question answered... in typical doc time ..:)

just don't mention chinese throwout bearings... :P

Actually they were JAPANESE throwout bearings, pure unadulterated rubbish. I set the world record for bearing life.
3 friggin' DAYS. :evil:
UK made ones are better- or go for the original design flat ones, Timken makes them. $50 at Kc.

Wonder how long it would last..... 8)

Somebody in UK now sells a Hy-Vo timing chain set.

<edit> There's nothing new about Hy-Vo timing chains, the WW2 Willys jeep had one! And baulk ring synchromesh that worked properly. 8)

hmmm....no more changing the main seal without pulling the front housing.....

Why?
The chain would have to be oil lubricated, these type of chains chains cannot run dry. They would last 5 minutes...
Looks to me like seal face on primary gear is as usual. :wink:
