You only need around 2-1/2psi max.

Doc,

Is a higher psi going to be a problem? or is it just not needed? Just asking because I picked one of these Facet Solid State pumps up the other day, and it says on the box 4.5 - 6 psi :? Just wonderin, if its too much I can take it back for a replacement, haven't installed it yet.

And for anyone and everyone, who has one of these pumps, just how noisy are they, ie, am I going to hear it over the Dellorto and say an RC40? much louder then a standard electric SU pump?

You will mainly hear it when stopped in traffic, they get louder if pressure builds up in the line. If your just cruisin along u wont hear it, especially with induction noise and an exhaust.

I can't hear mine at all with the motor running...
It's mounted in an SU pump bracket stuffed with polyurethane foam.
For our pretend S, I've mounted one (Purolator #12S) on a Mini centre exhaust pipe mount- yes the holes do line up.. Not on this car yet, but I had it mounted on the 850 to test.

re the pressure- if it floods the carb, just fit a regulator near the carb. Easy peasy. But I've had them feeding Webers, Dellortos and SUs without flooding.

<edit> but I think they were lower pressure ones..

So my shopping list will consist of:

1 pump
1 fuel regulator
X metres of fuel hose
some sort of blanking sleeve?
gasket

How many metres of hose to replace old hose (not sure how old it is, would rather replace the lot) and what do I do about the blanking of the old pump? can I just buy this as a custom part?

Chong, there's a steel plate that fits over the fuel pump hole. Dunno the p/no.
I'm about to make one for our 1275A+, maybe I'll make 2...

Just a little concerned about people running fuel lines, pumps etc IN the boot........

Firstly it is probably illegal because of the possibility of fire and fumes seeping into the passenger cabin...

Secondly, you have a battery that could under certain circumstances produce a spark.....

Fumes + spark = Boom!!

Matt, whatever electric pump you use, earth it to the rear sub-frame.

Mick, the Cooper S had fuel lines in the boot. Metal, but had hoses at the ends..
I just use a length of USA 1/4" fuel line from the RH tank, across the front of the boot to a tee in front of the LH tank. No fumes, & hose is not gone hard yet, after 9 years..

Personally though I would never put a fuel pump IN the boot. Better down on the subframe, where it belongs.

Yep...realise that and seen them split and leaking!! As the heading says....prolly not the safest or most elegant solution. Rally and Competition cars of course had huge high pressure pumps in the boot but with fire extinguishers handy as well.

I just have this vision of an inexperienced person setting up a time bomb in there!! What's that saying?.... Don't fool with Fuel!

I had a facet pump on the van, it died after one year's use.

I "temporarily" replaced it with an early 80's Mazda 929 pump I had picked up at a garage sale for $2. It looks similar to the Facet, and is still there, four years later. :D

Mount it in thick rubber somehow. I can't hear mine once the motor's running, and yes it's a Facet/TRW square one. 8)
