What makes a mini engine die?

Oil starvation, and wear and tear are obvious, but what causes are there and what can be done to prevent it?

Cooling , cooling and cooling , make sure the cooling system is as good if not better than when they roled out of the factory . Nothing worse than having a hyper motor that you can't use fully because it overheats when pushed . Also because it can kill it quickly ....

Acid clean the block to make sure there's nothing hiding in the waterways , new radiator or better radiator , timing right , umm ....

the speed of the fan is not tied to the speed of the engine. So you can have a 5000rpm fan acting on radiator of a 750 rpm engine.

Its efficiency is not dependant upon on engine or vehicle speed. Your question was regarding making a bullet proof A-series, and this mod would IMHO be necessary for a street engine.

Oil is the best mechanic (my Dad told me that) :D

so..don't be afraid to change your oil on a regular basis.

ah.. i didn't think of that..

thermo fans would attach to the same temp sender point and be located in the same place...

who does them?

Standard 998s with 1.25" SU and pea shooter are fairly bullet proof coz you can't rev them past 4000rpm :)

The thermo fan runs off a seperate sender which can either be put into the top rad hose or put a thermo cover with a sender hole in the side. Another benefit is you can leave the fan running with the engine off, which is also a benefit of an electric water pump, but I've never seen someone running one on an A series donk.

Get a fully rebuilt 'S' motor, certain main strap, better oil pump, better crank, basically better everything, and don't put big exhasut and webers and stuff on to keep the ability to rev low.

Failing that, just thrash out a 998 till it blows up, then buy another, and do the same with that, then when loacl supply runs out import from Japan (thanks Steve!) and continue.
