G'day,
whats the common methods/ designs for making weber firewall boxes, I was going 2 just take out the glued in centre peice and make up a new deeper peice, however in my clubman,the hole is not dead centre to the carb, so im going to have to cut more out of the firewall, I would just like to know what other people have done,pics would be great also.

It's common to use a cut down battery box for this, if you want to use a long manifold- eg a Russell Engineering or Warneford/redline race one.
I'll let Chong (Lillee) tell you the story, he has just gone through it with a roundnose.
A Clubby would be less grief...

for an idea. I have welded these out of MS before but don't have the facilities atm. I made one for a panel van that has magnolia vdo gauges in the cabin and can fit a conventional K&N filter.

If you have a clubman no worries, it's when you have a roundie and want the centre binnacle as well when you will have issues.

I got Grieg and Mini Classic in Ermington to do mine. He fabricated a box and welded it into place. I had it made to pretty exacting size as I had the webber complete on my head for him to measure up and cut/fabricate/weld.

The only other thing you need to think about is redrilling your wiring holes to go under the dash. That may mean needing to extend some wires to reach the switches etc. If you have a long weber then I high recommend it, it's quieter (not that I can tell as it is still LOUD ) and less smellier too.

The last thing you need to worry about is disconnecting all your wiring before doing any cutting. Sounds simple, but believe me it aint (well not in my case! )

I really dont need to modify the firewall as im using a short redline manifold, however im running 45mm long ram tubes with foam sox, which leaves me 2inches out of luck!! I really want to run these as they produce beter flow /power, but if anyone has another filter combo that means no firewall mods, and still produces simular results that would be great

Answer: Stub stacks! Don't run the ram tubes, they hardly make any difference so long as you have a radius on the intake, it makes no difference. Search Ausmini for DrMini's Stub Stacks (ask him nicely he may make some up for you too )

And yes they really do work, could not pick them out over ram tubes on the dyno

They fit inside a Ramflo etc filter.

If you DO end up doing more, add another 45mm set for me, and I'll put the 40's away rather than mill them out to 45mm. I may put twin 40's on the renault one day once I get the 45 running on the mini.

No- but here's a pic on a Dellorto 40DHLA, they mount the same way. Same bolt spacing.
They sit flush against the backplate of the Ramflo filter.
