I think for the purposes of this discussion, you may want to advise what state this relates to as the rules vary. 8)

There isn't a national code in force yet, DOTARs have had one on the table for over 12 months but the states have yet to accept it, at the moment you are at the mercy of the state rego authorities and each state has differing requirements. victorias emissions levels are done by the state EPA unlike the other states and you will need to check with a state approved engineer to see what you are going to need to get a car rego'd legally, it should be possinle as I know of a couple of the watson kits being built in other states

Jon thanks for the info, I have checked with a vic roads registered engineer he has seen the car and told me it will not pass because the track is increased by 90mm per side and dotars states it is only to be increased by 12mm per side + to make the rear track the same as the front watsons supply 90mm spacers that are not legal under dotars so my question is where or how can it be registered ?? with the watsons frame mini regards peter[/quote]

Welcome Peter!

This should be under the "Mini Engine Conversions" section. :)

Maybe running custom offset wheels can bring the track back within requirements?

Try a different engineer the rules for track only relate to conversions that require engineering i.e if you do not ibcrease the track by more than 25mm no engineering report is required if the increase is above this it will need to be engineered and approved by the engineer and that is the reason for the engineer, try a few different engineers as they are all different and while some might not be prepared to do a car for you others will be happy to do it, DOTAR do not say you can't they just say what is acceptable without engineering and what limits are before engineering is required for approval, anything is possible, I know of a couple of DOTAR approved engineers that are doing cars for people right now so search around :D

im doin a vtec conversion atm and while i was choosing my kit i looked at the whole wheel track thing and decided to go with a US kit that used all the mini geometry which keeps everything mini bar the motor.

May i be nosy and ask how much you paid for the kit after it landed at your door?
i know its expensive coz mine cost me a packet load.. just over 5G's
also didnt go for a watsons or SAE because was thinkn it was gonna be more expensive too

Clae the price for watsons kit landed was a bit less than you paid but I must tell you I didnt pay for delivery a friend was bringing a container so no charges for transport and so thats what made it less. Watsons kit is good only the track is too wide for Vic reg.How is your kit is it fitted yet ? did you buy MT B frame.

Clae Nice subframe I see you have a cable clutch on the b16a did you order different parts to hook it up ? only the gearbox mounting in the picture looks like its for hyd clutch. looking at the frame my bet is the suspension is moved forward about 30mm in relation to the tower mounting to give a better drive shaft angle and bulkhead clearance to the inlet manifold. I have a b16a with a pr3 factory computer my half cut was a jdm 1992 integra Da6 do you have to use the factory computer in WA ? MINI regards peter.

Is this the kit you purchased for the vtec?
http://www.minimania.com/web/Item/MT100 ... Detail.cfm

$5k shipped eh. Lots of $$$ I can see why ausminiers seam to be going for efte's. Though I am sure it will be a ****** hot mini.

Wonder how much the whole kit would cost?

I imported an Allspeed frame which uses all standard mini suspension so same track and you dont need to extend the nose (round), still a tight fit though with bulkhead mods. I am very early on with the conversion and have yet to show it to an engineer but have explained it to him and seems it should be quite feasible (hopefully). This cost me just under $2000 aus landed (i did get cheap shipping through a mate) so prob wld have cost bit over $2000! Its very well made but does need a little tweaking to fit, nothing major!

My B16A has a cable clutch so if anyone has a way of converting it to a Hydro, any ideas would be appreciated!

Cheers
