Is it possible to get an A/C kit or parts for a clubman?

No aussie mini's had A/C as standard or optional

I believe some of the Jap Rover mini's did in the 90's but I think you'd probably be hard pressed to find one out here.

I dunno how they would work on a transverse A series... there isn't a whole lotta room for extra pulleys up that end of the motor.

Maybe salvageable from another little asian buzz box built in the 90's... try the mini mania and mini portal threads. There's probably a few seppo's living in the califorian heat who will have fitted A/C

I knew that we didn't do it in Oz but saw that it was done in Japan and wondered if anyone had worked out how to do it here. I wonder if the compressor could be mounted where the air pump on the clubmans was mounted. Anyone got any brackets for an air pump? I don't remember what the setup was with those. It shoudn't be very hard to do now I start thinking about it. I can't recall how the air pump was run, was it off a double water pump pulley?

You can get the air-con kit from the UK. It all depends on how fat your wallet is I suppose.

I was looking at this a few months ago and remember seeing a pic of the workings for the air-con system on a rover mini neatly packaged into the rear sub-frame space. Don't know if this was standard install or a cleaver after market use of available space.

do you have any links/pics to that air con system? am interested.

and yeah you can put one under the bonnet if you have room, get one off a jap rover mini. There was one about 6 months a go that went for $1200 the Mini Owners Club of Queensland trader board. I believe ozcooper.com.au had some for sale as well...

I have one fitted to my car.

Ive seen on one of a mates mini where it is mounted like the raditator on the drivers side wheel arch. mine sits behind the grille which make the engine harder to work with. the altinator has been moved up and the compressor sits underneath the altinator. this makes the spark plug a pane to remove on mine. But boy its nice in the summer nice cool air.

From memory it was either a pic of a Rover Mini aircon install or one of the after market Kits.

I was saving this for my Traveller project, but now Im considering fitting it to my van for a while. I changed the gearbox in the van last weekend, so i relocated the heater hoses to the drivers side of the firewall (via holes in the fresh air blanking plate) and removed the heater core behind the grille in readyiness for the A/C. (I now have a reco Morris 1100 S radiator fitted, so cooling should not be a problem!)

I havent figured out all the brackets or the wiring yet.

You could probably replicate something similar.
- Toyota Tercels have a very similar sized condenser, you would just have to make up the brackets.
- Use compact A/C pump from something Japanese - Charade? Mount the a/c pump where the alternator is and mount the alternator where the air pump should go. You will need air pump double pulley, brakets and thermostat housing if not already fitted).
- Under dash evaporator unit can be pulled from any number of 60s-70's luxo barges - check BMW's, Mercs, Fords etc in your local boneyard.
- Use a dryer cannister and hoses off something common.
- Reroute heater hoses so you can use the original hose holes for the A/C hoses.

my old shcool mate and fellow mini hoon of years gone by, was untill recently the PDI manager of Rover Japan. He was responsible for the aircon project on the mini. Also for the 1300 ERA twin turbo's. Kind of ironic that he now owns an english school. as he left school unable to write.

Try asking Ozcooper if they have any aircon kits. I know they have Airbag kits for '97 and later minis as replacements, as well as anything else to repair a damaged car.

When I used to work at Northern Mini Parts with Henry Draper he had sourced out air con units to fit in a clubby. There was a guy with an LS who wanted to fit one. You should just go to an auto air con place and I am sure they could help you.

You may also be able to buy one from Brickworx SA he used to have spare ones as well. I bought one for mutant but as yet have not installed it.

If there is room in a Rover Spi then you should have plenty of room in a clubby to install one.

I have been advised to conact the brickworks so will chase that up when he comes back from his honeymoon(??) or was it holidays. I believe he has some half cuts on the water so that maybe the way to go. We are going to use this van for some longish trips so A/C sounds good especially as I am going to paint it black. I am putting a cargo barrier in it so I will put perspex on that to contain the cool air.
