Hi guys,

I'm aware that both central locking and keyless entry can be achieved relatively easily on a clubman but has anyone ever tried adapting some sort of system to an early mini? eg. sliding window

The passenger side could have an actuator attached to the locking mechanism however the drivers side and boot both lock through the barrel leaving no mechanical linkage for an actuator.

I have seen people simply adapt a clubman mechanism to a wind up window door and keeping the early handle but this would be a lot harder on a sliding window model.

Just curious to see if anyones tried it

I'll be attempting all of the above and electric windows in my deluxe,
all of which I have worked out, but haven't made yet.
I'm a while off but it is all do-able.

My latest purchase, Camilla, had central locking on the doors but not boot.

As you say, the passenger side had the actuator connected to the door lock through a hole drilled in the door below the manual lock/un-lock doodad.

The driver's door handle had been replaced by a passenger one with the internal lock bit turned upside down (taken apart so the striker faced the right way).

The actuators themselves were housed vertically on the door below the locks. The door cards had been modified to go out and over the actuators.

Search for pics of Chasg 's car, which I now own. Charles had posted lots of pics on Photobucket showing the finished product.

I have now removed the lot so I can use a normal door lock, normal door cards and, more importantly, pass a roadworthy inspection.

Mokesta,
I have thought about using a passenger latch on the drivers side and using the actuater off that but the problem I am faced with is what happens when the actuators lock on or something??

Without the external lock aswell it could be quite embarrasing, another problem is that there is significantly less room to bolt things in the sliding window doors.

I was contemplating putting a smaller shaft throught the main handle shaft and connecting the actuator straight to the barrel. If I could turn the barrel than all problems would be solved and I could use the same system for the van.

Thanks for the input guys, keep it coming please

Well in my setup I will use the passenger side lock and handle, and fit a solex
or whatever lock below on the drivers side. This can be rigged into the actuator so
dead battery means I can still get in. :D

Sounds like a good set up Harley but I'd like to have the doors still looking as original as possible, ie not drilling too many large holes through the skin.

This is why I was thinking of modifying the original barrel instead of adding another lock below the handle.

Mini_man used central locking motors in the rear pockets that shot a pin into the doors to lock the car. I Have seen it working and its awsome. I will try to get him to post some pics
