Well I broke my brand new Toyota OEM water pump which will delay installation of the engine dammit. So maybe I will make a start on the manifold this weekend. Pics to come. I have got the design pretty well set in my head so I will provide a sketch when I get a chance.

Cheers

Matt

Nah Andy nothing quite so impressive, I will try to go equal length but still fairly straighforward. I should have some pics by the end of the weekend.

I can get you trade price for a Davis Craig leccy water pump if you have problems finding a High volume toyota one. their pretty good an I think they are better than stock in most cases

Hey Matt,

What turbo are you going to install? And does anyone know what the good options are for an upgrade over the stock 4EFTE turbo?

Cheers

Yeah Andy 10mm. Not difficult to cut just a pain the arse. And the turbo a brand new KKR 280 (German off shoot of KKK) which is probably equivalent to a TD04 or similar. I am running into trouble at the front with space so I may have to make some ugly mods a the front to accommodate the radiator, FMIC and large turbo its all get quite crowded in there now. Still I have all the bends I need to start making the headers so we should be away....I will post pics once I get a wriggle on. I have Mon + Tue off so I should get something done by then...

Cheers

Matt

Hi Matt,

I have just reisntalled the FMIC on El Gato so I can get some measurements to find out how much to cut out fo the front spoiler.

Would it be OK if I send you some pics so you can see what i am up to, and we can swap some notes?

Regards,
Andy

Thanks very much Dean that's very much appreciated, it would be good to get up to MDU so we can compare notes... Andy yeah send me a pic. At the moment I have literally cut the front out of car. I have a guy down here making a custome intercooler to spec. I put the deposit down on Monday. I am also turning the exducer hosing so it points to the ground so I can line it up with bottom inlet for the IC. Getting excited about doing the manifold, tack welded the jig last night so I should be a fair way along by Sunday arvo!

Cheers

Matt

There is definitely no moss growing on you Matt.

I have just yesterday dropped off my EM gasket to the engineering guys to get it laser cut. Cost will be about $30 per flange.

Probably wont start the manifold just yet, got the body work to finish.

I will take some pics today and send them down, but by that time you will probably be nearly complete.

Talk later,
Andrew

Andrew,

I based my first plate on the exhaust side manifold gasket only to find out that the cut plate did not suit what i wanted to do with it.

I basicaly ended up with thin sections of plate where i had oversized my port holes so that i could weld them from the inside.

I also used 10mm plate but second time around would look at using 12mm plate, reason being when you weld the manifold up the heat will distort the plate and then you have to have it machined. Its easier to machine more off and go back down to a 10mm thick plate then trying to do less so that you retain the thickest possible plate.

My experience anyway.

Dan

Dan,

Yes, point taken.

I have done one with 10mm plate and it did get affected by heat. Wrong type of welding and too much heat. Did another using a different technique and it worked out fine!!

I think its how you weld it and the experience you have.

Only going to be using steam pipe anyway, so should weld up a treat.

Regards,
Andrew
