My stock 998 would go no past 5300 but most times I changes gears around the 4000 mark. Once I get the new motor in soon, maybe it will pull a lot higher???

The Moke with the 1310 wont rev past the 5500 mark (or maybe I am too scared to go past that) but I also change up around the 4000+ mark..

I only rev mine to about 5,000 tops as I fell totally cruel if I go over that. That's the way I have always been and my car has NEVER broken down on me. (Which I reckon that record is pretty good)

Plus my car is louder than normal as well, I have pulled most of the sound deadening off cause it was so old it looked like it was about to fall off!

Regular servicing and sensible driving.

I blew up Zippy (998) at 4600 in 4th @ 110km/h (or so the speedo and tacho said)
Now, building a new one... mmmm... nice.

Zippy was not in the best of health though, smoke, smoke, more smoke...

Cheers,
Peter.

My red line for the 1330 will be 6500rpm but I won't be going there EVERY SINGLE gearchange  only on the occasion that I need to overtake someone or show off   As said unless you have major mods there is not point going over 5500 on a stocko cam...

My engine, without major mods, seems to harder above 4000, minis dont have enough torque to be great underthat, which isn't a problem for normal driving but when you really wnana give it the go why should't you get more power at higher revs? I have a relatively stock engine, 9FSAY motor, 12G940 head, 60 thou overbore, extractors, 2 inch exhaust, straight thru muffler, twin 1.25 su's basically stock otherwise. Personally I don't count that heavlity modified, lol I struggle to call that modified! But it does seem to go harder at higher revs, not harshly though, just BLOODY LOUD! can't hear my 200 watt radio, but then again with an engine sound that beautiful who cares about music....... Neways, Hotbricks is hopefully doing a dyno day soon, and then I can see if it does make a difference at all. Also when I drive my dads clubby with a stock 1100S engine it does get really harsh above 5000, and doesnt seem to make anymore power at all. Is the Cooper S engine really that much bertter, the answer is yes. PS any info on the dyno day, any dates or is it still just chat?

Had my 30 thou over 1275 up around 7000 rpm the other night leaving a P plater in a Jeep Wrangler - Wally thought he could keep up with me... 175 kph saw me the victor with plenty to go by the feel of it... hehehe... but when you're running with a worked head, 45 weber, extractors, exhaust and a race cam that's the sacrifice you make for all that wonderful slow speed driving hehehe... who cares if it's a pig round the carpark...

I used to take the modded 1310 (with S crank & forged flat tops) to 8000 on the track, but I now limit the new 1360 to 7000 on the road, and 7500 on track days.
Same S crank in again, it's still a good `un.

Yes, this one too certainly does go harder above 5,500- it would spin past 8K if I let it. But I want it to last. 8)

i've got a stock mg metro 1275a+, peak tourqe (is that how you spell it?) is at 3000-3500rpm and peak power is at 55000rpm. still it seems to like going to 7500 when its tuned properly but the tappets sound like a type writer..... and the amount of fuel it dumps at 7500 is pretty alarming, plus it lets out a pretty funny 007 james bond smoke screen from the rear tailpipe lol.
oh well its never broken down and goes really well, but i guess it wont be perfect untill its been rebuilt......good thing i bought a twin cam head for it..... =)

55000 RPM! My god, is that 1275 metro a rotary or something lol nah  I know you meant 5500 but i oculdnt pass up the opportuninty to have a little fun. Tappet noise ay? my carbies are way to loud to even hear any other engine noise at all. In fact the carby noise inside my car equals my exhasut noise, also very noisy!

I bought an LS of Stuwey in here, overbore to 1293, headwork and nice cam. Dyno sheet said peak power at 6700rpm.

Problem is, when the engine is up towards redline, the tacho's going nuts. Can't get an accurate reading as to what revs its at!

My sminth clubby tacho goes crazy when you shift, especially down shift! it's rather funny but its acftually more tam at higher rpm, not sure how that works but mine seems to hate sudden rpm changes, my volt stabilsing unit in the gauges (LS triple guages) has problems, whcih may affect the tacho, not sure, it does affect my fuel tank reading...but thats another problem!
