I have timed the ignition as per the Docs instructions or so I think.
I stand corrected on this but the procedure for setting the timing is as follows
I have a new mark on my pulley wheel, 24mm measured clockwise from the original mark.
I run it to 4000+ with the vac line disconnected from the dist and plugged with a screwdriver.
I advance the dist until the new pulley mark lines up with the pointer corresponding to 0, using a strobe.
Anyone throw more light on this?
D4R85 dist, unleaded fuel

That seems correct as a starting point. You may need a bit more advance, if highly modified. I would advise sticking it on a dyno for determining final setting. My 1360 found about 3KW this way.
It is currently running at 36* total advance, but it has a pretty big cam and bathtubbed chambers- most road cars would need less.
