yes, but the cooper heads are rare, expensive and some require modification. wheras smallbore heads cost nothing and are readily available.
a 12g202 is a good dirt cheap head.

mmm head.

"get the most power out of my 998 motor as possible"

Well, start modifying ... I'm getting around 85HP@Wheels with my little 998 ....

Long-Stroke crank, 0.060 over, 1275 head, 1.5:1 rockers, large valves, ported and chanmber shaped, RE-13T Cam, Pulsar dizzy, Turbo, HIF-44 carb, PWR Intercooler, lightened flywheel and clutch backing plate... Lots of other stuff too ....

good for about 7000RPM and at the moment about 12PSI (Engine is 3 weeks old!!) going up to 14/16 in the next week or so ....

with the utmost respect to your now 1100 turbo -

the way i see it modifying smallbores is about getting the most out of what u have without spending enough to buy a 1275. 8)

I reckon different horses for different courses.

Some people like to take the easy route and buying and modifiyng a 1275 is
there way to go quick and that is fine.

Others like a bit of a challenge, Jim im sure knows that he could of bought a
1275 maybe for the money he spent. but has much satisfaction from
getting great results from a small bore..

similarly (I am not spending a great deal on my motor) i cant wait to get more
power and torque from my 998 than what i get with my 1293.. it just is a bit
of fun to do things a different way..

in saying that, if there is a 1275 available for the right money then of course i would
buy it and do something with that!! lol

Chris, I've actually SOLD 2 1275's to help fund this beast ! (and it still owes me a LOT of $$$)

BUT everything done to this engine can easily be moved over to a big-block... and make a little more power ...

Persoanlly, my motivation was to build a realtivly simple engine that could mix it up with the big boys, but still be able to tootle to the train or shops ...

yea, its a little grumpy now with the RE-13T and the rockers, but its still very, very drivable... it has the huge torque of an 1100, plus the shove in the back of a massivly modified 1275
(1st Ausmini Dyno day, the only 1275 to take me out was a race-prepped 1400cc Clubbie - yellow one...) and even then by only 0.8 of a HP ....
I was pretty damn happy that day... since then I have added the larger turbo, the large head and the intercooler as well as had some major revisions in the tuning and timing...

Lets just say, I've got a small-block that should be able to handle itself around most big-blocks .... and its alot of fun !
J

didnt doubt the cost at all mate!!!
Just trying to say the reaasonin behind my
going for modifying a small block was for the satisfaction of doin things
different to the norm :)

I'm currently building a 1030cc for my van and the main reason for the small bore is money.

Not just in terms of the motor, but there's something a little unnerving to me about a stove hot 1275 with drum brakes all round. Call me crazy but I like to be able to reign in the horses.

Until I can afford a set of discs for the beast I'm gonna have to keep playing with small bore.

I also agree that there is a whole lot of satisfaction to be had from getting the most power out of the smallest capacity. But then, I like a challenge.

using the formula for working out the capacity of engines using hairdryers your engine is rated at 1870cc far from being a small bore

if i put a 1100 crank and pistons in it, it's already been bored 60thou will i be able to still get a compresion ratio of 8:1 cause i would like to supercharge it as well.

with the 1275 head if i can get one at reasonable price will i be able to bolt it streight on or will i have to drill another head bolt hole and modify it.
