hi all.... i have a 78 leyland with a 998cc motor. i am in 2 minds to either rebuild the 998cc engine or scrap it and go with a 1100cc engine. also like to fit a supercharger on it!!! its pretty bad but i dont really no much in the mini engine rebuild situation... if there are some good places in sydney that you might know of that i could go see, that would be great!!

If Doc tells you who to go to, you go to them... I have read a gazzillion posts and doc is always right (even when he is not!)

its all comes down to time and Money
Time Are you Looking at taking out the 998 and putting another engine in!
Money are you thinkling of just purchasing a 1100 and slipping it in or as with time get a 1100 building it up and doing the swap

The reason I say this, if you have the time you can convert your 998 to a 1100 with a 1100 crank and a few addition mods.

GR is highely recomended by many..but get in and say hello and say what you want and ask for a price and a time frame you and he can agree apon

You don't need to scrap your engine to go 1100cc..it's just a different crank and pistons...(pistons you'd need to replace anyway with a rebuild)..

As an alternative, You could go see Greig Malure at Mini Classic, he will Build your motor for you and GR will have done all the machine work anyway. As GR is very Busy this may make a good alternative if you can't wait. Do ring around though, it is always good to get quotes or at least an idea what you will get for the money you spend.

stay with the 998 mate.. fiddle sticks the common ass 1100 and 1275s!!

Speak with graham if u get the chance. he is great at getting a lot
of power and TORQUE from a 998!

but than again u may not be an oddball like me and do things the different
way just so ur not that same as everyone else....

your not alone 998s rock they really are a tough little engine which is very nice to drive and i dare you to try and break one there farking tough

i would say stick with your 998 and get a good head and manifold and cam and your laughing or get a 1275 and your even laughing harder or get a suzuki and youl be laughing so hard it will be amazzing

Hmmm I've got a nice recently rebuilt (by someone) 998 here, it threw a rod... and this is the 2nd one I've seen over the years.

Sure, a 998 is a nice little engine. But stock, it just doesn't have the torque of the bigger ones.
Throwing a 1098 crank & pistons in there when you rebuild it will lift its torque from 52 lb/ft to 60lb/ft... so no more rowing it up hills with the gearlever.
