Just for future reference:

I was looking at pics of B series engines earlier and they look like out familiar A series,
just wondering if any parts are compatable between models?


Apologies if this has been covered, couldnt find anything of this nature elsewhere.

all I can see is different bore stroke and bearing sizes
as the engine ccs increase as you would expect
different ring types and gaps as well
all depends on what engine mods are done from standard

I did a web search as "b series mini engines"
and came up with info you might find helpfull click on" other products " and the next site
it looks like there are differences

I don't have plans for anything, I just wanted to know for future reference.
Doesnt hurt to have the extra knowledge.

As far as I know there's very little compatible , they look visually similar on paper but the B series is so much bigger in every dimension that I doubt anything would fit . There may be things like pulleys and generater but that's about it . I spent years going to wrecking yards with a mate who's into MG's so we were constantly getting bits off A series and B series , don't recall anything being common .

The thoughts got started when I noticed an MG engine on ebay, complete with twin carbs and everything for what looked a good price. With BMC being as cheap as they were its just curiosity that makes you wonder "would they have re-designed that or re-used it?"
In reality I wouldnt go buying anything, I'm too lazy to do so.

The blocks are considerably larger , anybody got a picture of a mini motor/box and an Austin 1800 motor/box side by side to see the size difference ? Manifolds are different but the carbs would fit , that's about all .

e series is an OHC motor, and puts out about 90bhp

Don't worry about the E-series, take a look at the Rover K-series (MGF, Freelander etc.) http://www.minimarcos.org.uk/altpics/minki/index.html
Twin overhead cam, 16 valve 1400cc, Now that would be fast! The Freelander base model had a 1800cc version of the K-Series (thats what I've been told so I'm not 100% sure).

k-series can be done but its wayyyyy to wide. e series and o series have box under the engine like a mini.

Engine weights from varoius Leyland books...
1500 ohc with gearbox = 188kg
1275 with auto box = 166kg
1275 with manual box = 154kg

According to the Marina workshop manual the 1500 and the 1750 are the same weight.

thatd be alright in a mini then, is that with the 5 speed?
