Ive just finished up doing this conversion to my mini (1100s engine).
Really a pretty simple conversion - instead of using the existing mini mounting plate however, we just cut a slot in the existing flange that is used to mount the dizzy on the pulsar - still gives u some movement and only using the one bolt now.
Did have some probs getting it to run again after changing it over but was just a matter of playing with the timing.
Thanks for all the info guys! :)

Yeah, that adjustment tab was my only drama too..... eventually i just made it triangular with a single 8mm hole in it, and fabricated a new base plate with a slot in it for adjustment.... Will post some pics when (or if) i get around to it

Well, Chong came around today and we stuck a Pulsar D4R83 (auto) dizzy into the near stocko 1098, which got a 45DHLA carb a week ago.

Man, what a difference! It is a total beast- even with a stock 202 head it revs its nuts off now- the Dellorto howls nicely!

The old coil is a 1.5 ohm- some twit had it running with NO resistor and it had crapped the points pretty bad.
With the Pulsar dizzy we are now using the same coil, plugs are .040" gap, and it's sweeeet!
:P

<edit> fixed typo... Thanks, Chong!

AHEM! 45 DHLA! get it right pal!

OMG she goes sweet as Kev!!! I can't wait to put in the tacho so i can actually see what revs I am on as apposed to guessing  :? :D The dellorto is too loud I can't hear the engine lol

I got more pulsar bits than I have mini bits now hehe Fiat tacho, pulsar dissy, alternator, dellorto. All i need now is a massive Nismo sticker on my back window

I am still so jealous of yer wife's new S'alike! it's awesome! 1293 should make it hard to keep up with

Didn't take long to mod the Pulsar dizzy, did it!

Yeah the 1293 will go good but not as hard as mine! It's got the dreaded Hepolite 21251 (8.8:1) pistons in, so I can't give it the big rev.. :?

The A+ dizzy will not fit a normal A series engine. It has a different drive dog on the end of it and it is held in the block differently.
You can make it fit! but it is about the same amount of waok as fitting the Pulsar one.

I've heard the A+ electronic ones are not the most reliable in the world, either. And they cost more.
A friend picked up a Pulsar one at a market the other day. $5.00. Anybody beat that?

adam (citric) and i were down at pik-a-part yesterday and what did we come across.. 3 pulsars all side by side all with their dizzys (not anymore) but what i dont get i hear you guys saying they are off the fuel injection auto.. the fuel injection ones had weird carbys and we found the D4R83 on manual carby pulsars and the auto one there had a D4R85

so keep your eyes open boys.. dont look at the gearstick look at the number stamped on the body.. if anyone here in perth has a modified mini and need an eleccy dizzy there is still one D4R85 down at pick-a-part down in kenwick ($40 bux if hes in a good mood)

dr mini,

am i correct in saying that i dont need a ballast resistor with the pulsar dizzy and a bosch gt40R coil?,
anyone know where the resistor is hiding on the mini? i cant seem to see it anywhere, i'll just have to trace the wires further

can i use the GT40 transistor coil?

No ballast resistor used on Pulsar electronic dizzy. It gets 12V+.

It runs a 1.5 ohm coil, so a Bosch GT40R is fine.
Don't use the Bosch Electronic coil though- it's only 0.8 ohm, could blow the module.

If in doubt put an ohm meter on the coil and check primary resistance.

I thought the Bosch GT40 was for use without a ballast resistor and the GT40R was only for use with a ballast resistor?? :?

I'm running the GT40R on mine, with the ballast resistor...
According to the book - the GT40R can be used with the Pulsar Dizzy
