Just wondering whether anyone knows what their own subframe weighs and what sort of material they used.

And also what the standard mini subframes weighs?

I would say mine weighed a approximately 30kgs (very rough estimate). Not sure what the original weighed but I believe, mine was probably lighter after the conversion. So long ago can't remember clearly.

Mine weighs more than the original subframe, not sure just how much more.

I used 50 x 25 for the construction of the frame (i think the wall thickness was around 2mm).

I think mine weighs in around the 22kg mark, heavier than the standard.

But obviously, we save on the engine/gearbox weight with the conversion.

Overall, it came out slightly ahead, by about 10-12 kg's

Mine weighs about 22kg, a bit heavier than std mini

Steel was 26.9 od tube, 2.3mm wall. to AS1163 C350 LO

Yeah i was just a bit worried about unsprung weight and adding all this extra bracing, turbo, intercooler and the likes. It comforts me to know that the Gti engine is pretty light. But it all adds up.

Yeah Tricky et al probably off a bit with the 30kgs, yeah 35mm OD mild steel tube with 2.5 wall thickness. Works fine...

All subframe steel is sprung weight. Suspension components attached to and including wheel are unsprung and those between the wheel and subframe are generally regarded as 1/2 sprung. The lighter the better for all though, especially for anything infront of the front axle line (unless you want to drag race it).
