i would imagine the 998 with it's revving capability would be a perfect base for turbo

and the torque of the 1098 would lend itself to supercharging would it not?

sounds logical crush, 1098 turbo would be sweet tho, as long as ya invest in a rev limiter. :D
South African 1098 (large bore) would be awesome tho!

how far do you want to rev it?? It's a big myth 1098's don't like to rev, mine will go to 7000rpm willingly and easily.

8.5k would be nice :D

7000 is pleanty in my oppinion, all im saying is that a shorter stroke wil make more revs, 998 stroke is 76.2mm compared to 83.7mm in the 1098. personally i wil be limiting my new engine to 7k(1098 crank) because i am an irrsponsable idiot when it comes to reving my engines.

1100's wont stand up to revs like a 998, but yeah they can definately be made to rev as high.. they'll just be more likely to break.

Question guys.. WHATS likely to break ?

The Crank ? - the stroke is only a "bit" longer - actually 0.290 longer....
Cant see any reasons for it to be less able to be reved there...

Rod Bolts ? - same as the 998 ones...

Pistons ? - again, very, very similar to the 998 ones....

From what I've seen, There is no real reasons why an 1100 shouldnt rev like a 998 - yea, its a little more undersquare (Favouring Torque over HP)

That said, I'm limiting mine to about 6500 . . no real reason to rev it more than that....

J

limit it to 6.5k and nothing should break unexpectedly over a 998

The thing with 1098's is that the piston speed becomes too great and the rings and piston lands don't like it if you rev them too much sure they will rev for a while but they wear out way too fast.
With a supercharger you have boost as soon as you open the throttle so it over comes the lack of low down torque found with 998's my sc 998 has 5psi of boost at 1500RPM

Well my 1220 with 68mm Imp pistons and 1100 crank survived 20,000 miles, often revved to 8500+.
The crank didn't break- in the end a circlip self destructed, gudgeon scored the bore.
Crank did have 4 hairline cracks in the crankpin radii after this abuse though.
re the piston speed, lots of Jap engines have more stroke than an 1100 does. Check yer Hondas for example...

This sounds alright! What supercharger setup are you running on the 998?

Fairzzzz enough!

willy, have you seen this kit in action? It seems to be a decent power gain for little money!
