I have been tossing this over for the last month now and I am going to bite the bullet. I keep seeing everyone else having fun with their Starlet GT conversions and a decision has had to be made. I was scanning through the internet and a GT motor is available with everything including the dash and gauges for a paltry $2300. Only 35000km on the clock and complete including lights and the works under the bonnet.

The wife is going to kill me but since the budget has been soooo generous to us(thank you Mr Costello!!)I think I will be taking out a loan for about $10000 and relying heavily on the experience of those that have gone before me.

So I am going to sleep on it for a week and do the sums and hopefully talk to Matt and 13secmini about ultimate costs. Matt will be a font of wisdom WRT engineering and subframe development(not to mention being local and damn easy to talk to...).

Damn you all!!! My life looks like it is going to get more complicated...lol

Excellent. Slowly but surely the infection is spreading.

You will be able to source your motor/box for a damn site less than $2300. Heck there is a guy on here who'll send you one from Tassie for $1000. All you'll need is a manual g/box and possibly the manual computer (which aren't hard to come by).

Good luck, I hope you go ahead with it. I'm sure you are aware of the evidence that supports the 'For' arguement.

yeah mini mafia is selling an auto in Tazzie for $1K it's a deal. I seem to have got excited and landed a LSD one that has bugger all K's on it and I paid a lot for it. I was tempted to get the $1K and make a RWD auto drag mini (perfect for drifts) but alas the budget and time do not allow it this time

It probably will mean that I am not the second 4efte mini in canberra either....... OOHH Well your in Jerrabomberra NSW... I night just be... :D :D :D

any help you need I would love to help.... I wish I had more time to do mine :( :(

Thanks guys - I wonder if the fellow meant a 4EFTE vice 4EGTE(someone might know if it is or not...).

Well this is a complete with a 5 speed manual and all starts and runs like a kitten(bloke had it started for me over the phone and purrs like a kitten - no priming - it just woofed into life within 2-3 seconds of cranking...)

HP - will be asking for as much help as I possibly can - I know Matt will probably throw some help too. I will always have the fridge full of beer and a hot BBQ plate.

Rob, mate I am more than happy to come over and give you a hand. I still have my jig though I think we would make one from scratch. I think 10K is enough if you are talking strictly engine conversion and bits and pieces attached to that (eg. Brakes). I think I spent about $11K all up but that included things like OBX bucket seats etc etc.

Give me yell before hand or I'll talk to you at the next Club meeting. Also I found out why it was vibrating so badly at 130 - 140 (on that special race track we went too   ). I found my brakes went to the floor yesterday so dropped it down to the brake place, ends up nothing wrong with the brakes simply the castellated nut on the stub axle (left front) was loose because whoever took it off forgot to replace the split pin and the nut had come undone with the hub moving around. If I can work out who would have worked on this I am going to give them an earful coz I know it wasn't me!

Cheers

Matt

If there is beer & snags involved, let's have a tech day... I'll be there :P

Does this mean you'll have a freshly rebuilt 998 motor for sale, no longer needed  God I dunno how I'm going to keep up on our club runs now!

Rob,
I spoke with MiniMafia when I was in Hobart a week ago, yes it's definitely a 4EFTE. Automatic box though.
If I had $1K spare now, I'd be tempted...

I think if a lot of people had a grand that would go, I would pick it up for sure. The second time around would be a cinch for sure. Anto you should have followed up on a motorcycle, oh that right :) Sorry mate couldn't resist.
