That's all good for those that drive LHD minis, only your passenger will lost his nuts!

Nah, that`s a one piece flywheel with integral ring gear, great for accelleration, but will need an idle speed of about 1500rpms & upwards to keep the girl running

It's not so much the total weight, it's where the mass is removed from.

In order to reduce rotational inertia, material should be removed from the outer section of the flywheel.

The amount of energy required to spin up/slow down a rotating object is based upon mass x radius^2, so where is more important than how much

After I lightened a stock Mini flywheel for Cody he gave me his old one, off a Morris 1100S. (commonly known as a 1300 flywheel).

Holy crap Batman, are those things heavy or what!
They have this bloody big cast ring around the outside. Tractor flywheel, I'd call it.

Keeping in mind AWDMOKE's bit of advice with regards to where the metal is scavenged from, I measured Matt's flywheel at a shade over 5.2 Kgs

Standard? :? BMC didn't have standards!

You mean a steel flywheel? Or a cast iron flywheel? Or a Morrie 1100 flywheel? Or ...

Doc, don't you machine 0.2" off the face of the standard flywheels to lighten them?

Yes I do, then I take another cut from the outside down to outer edge of the 3 holes, leaving 2.5mm material against the ring gear.
Vizard says you can lighten the engine side of it too, I generally don't bother for roady flywheels.

std flwheel weight is about 8kgs
the mini spares one is 3.8kgs
the swiftune ultra light is 3.2kgs
my own lightened one is 4.8kgs
aluminium race ones 3.4kgs
titanium one 3.6kgs
should slways try keep the road ones and any lightened ones around 5kgs or it tends to weaken to a point of self distruction and let me tell you you have a cutting disk doing 8000rpm right between your legs a flmsy little firewhall aint goin keep it out from cutting your gonads off.

std clutch set up wieghs about 12.4kgs
My race car set up wieghs 5.2kgs
my raod car set up wieghs6.5kgs
dont need any more revs to get her gogin as she will light the wheels up i just need to feather the clutch a little.
