how much would it be to supercharge my 1100.......keeping in mind i do not have the supercharger yet...also wats needs to be able to run it. ie. beef up the bottome end or??

I sucessfully turbo's my 998 to over 70HP@Wheels for well under $2500 .. including the full engine rebuild ....

next version will run to more like $4000 and be a little more powerful .....

set a budget, work out your goals and stick to them...
Want 100HP@Wheels ? - look at spending at LEAST $3500 on the build and setup . . . .

then there is the gearbox...mine has "lasted" about 15000 Miles @ 16PSI Boost .... only because i slip the clutch and dont "Shock" it .. ever .....

gearbox build will run to about $1000 .....

Starting to add up yet ?

Speed costs.... How fast do you want to go ?

What im saying JAMES, is that the cost is far too much of a variable, and things can go wrong, need replacing, etc etc.
So the bracket between prices you could expect to pay are huge.


Heres my estimate:

$1000 - $15,000.
Yes, realistically.

There are two paths you can go by, but in the long run... its better to do it once, do it right.

Shouldn't have to mess with the bottom end. However you might need to reduce the compression ratio, either by messing with the head or fitting a a REALLY thick head gasket to reduce the compression ratio. Have a look on Minispares or Minisport or one of those UK parts websites. They sell a supercharger kit with a compression reduction plate. I think it's just a thick plate to reduce the compression ratio. I think the ideal is around 8.5 but it will all vary depending upon how much you've got the supercharger wound up.

Do a bit of a search on this forum and you'll see that the cost varies dramatically depending on what you want to do yourself. You can approach Link Automotive (www.linkautomotive.com.au) and they do a lovely kit, but it is over $6,000.

The other option is you source a 2nd hand Toyota super charger and buy one of the kits that one of the guys on this forum was selling. Would cost a whole heap less but you would have to do a large part of it yourself, including find a suitable SC12 supercharger.

Another option is to look at Vmax Scart in the UK (www.vmaxscart.co.uk). They do Bini supercharger kits. They modifiy a Bini supercharger and modify the head to reduce the compression ratio. They also put unleaded valves in the head at this stage. You'd need to check his website for details and freight might well be a killer.

There are many ways to skin a cat. It just depends on what you can afford and how much HP you really want, and what you want to get out of it.

There's heaps of info on this site if you look and on some of the uk forums as well.

we have an old "Norman" supercharger fitted to one of our old speedway minis, cost us diddly squat as we did it all ourselves from cheap arse parts & bits & steel plates we just had lying around, works a treat.

But it is very heavy, loud & the carb sticks out the bonnet etc etc etc,,,ok for racing but probly not a good idea for the road

Ian Analzark has used a sprintex blower in the past, then went to turbo & now he`s gone back to supercharger again, think hes got the toyota one in there now. Little yellow roadster, very hot little toy indeed.

This is Zac's current mini (yellow speedster) while it was being built , you can see the Toyota supercharger but in this case it was set well back into the firewall by Zac's preference and design .

And here is the previous mini using the sprintex (in the middle shot , the top one is it's original spec with a turbo ) supercharger , quite a neat package , he later went to a bigger turbo for better results again .

Can't remember the type but it is a later model SU with internal (well , centre mounted) float bowl and yes it's on it's side .
