Well the engineer is coming around tomorrow at 5.30pm. That should be interesting. The guy who dynoed it said that about 115 was about the max with the CT9 (on 10psi). He said get a FMIC and a bigger turbo and the skies the limit! Anyway I will post after the engineer comes around.

Cheers

Matt

Yeah Dean, well happy with 106 on 7psi. The next big issue is the engineering. He was supposed to come around last night but ditched at the lat minute. He will be around tomorrow morning. But alas there is another fly in the ointment. I am trying to maintain a front mount radiator, but I had it down at the the radiator place today as it was consistently overheating (which is obviously not a good thing). So I dropped it off for them to have a look at and they said the radiator is just too small so I ask them for a quote for a custom one. So I will find out this arvo (more money). A boot mount may be the only other solution.

Cheers

Matt

Keep your chin up Matt, its not that big a set back. Did you check the thermostate to see if it was stuffed?

I'll be interested to see how the radiator setup turns out, keep us posted.

What radiator is it ? Is there the possibility of getting a radiator similar to Brad's it's a front mount right ?

Mine is from a Honda City turbo, it was the smallest one i could find at the wrecking yard, and has a electric fan with it. It keeps my motor under 1/2 way all the time, even in city driving on a 40 degree day.

The only time it got over 1/2 way is racing at wakefield park raceway after 15 solid laps on full throttle it went to 3/4 on the starlet temp guage. Let it cool down for 1/2 a lap and then of again no probs for another 15 laps.

Im unsure if the normal honda city uses the same radiator, but they do look identical.

Brad, mate I have a big favour to ask. I was down as the radiator place and I basically said to them well I have a mate who is running a smaller radiator than that and it doesn't get past halfway. So they said if I can give them the model and the dimensions I am away... :D

Itold them it was a Honda City Turbo but they kept talking about a Civic....
Cheers

Matt

If you went so far away id send you a radiator as ive got a spare city turbo radiator and fan lying around,if brad cant measure his one up due to room ill dig it out and let you know the measurements.

Matt,

Brad's radiator is "My honda city radiator is 350x300 and about 50mm thick with standard honda electric fan". I would say it is at minimum a twin core radiator.

Mymini,

Mate if you were to send it to me that would be excellent as this guy is quoting me $450 to recore the Mini item with a more densly finned core. So basically if you want to send it to me I will quite happily pay freight as it has to be cheaper than $450 by a long yard. And I am not sure what he would quote for a Honda City Turbo item either.

Plus in case no one has realised options are pretty limited in Canberra compared to the big smoke. The electrical work ended being $624.00!!!

Anyway Mymini, PM me if you're serious as this has brung things to a serious halt (and I am so close!).

Also the engineer came round this morning and basically it is a case of do the brake testing and I have my certificate so this cooling thing really is stuffing things up.

Thanks Brad and Dan for the info too.

Cheers

Matt

Hi Matt,

I got my two-core aluminium jobby made up for $500.

Its measurements are 350 h x 300 w x 50 d.

Seems a waste to spend $450 on a standard radiator when for the extra $50 you could have a lighter on with higer flow and better thermal properties.

Just a thought.

Cheers
Andy

OK to dispel all the myths re thermal conductivity, copper is better than aluminium, which in turn is better than brass.

Matt

having been caught a few times in Canberra for Rads myself, there is a place called Joes Radiators out in Queanbeyan in High St and he is cheap compared to the others, might pay to give him a call and see what he can do for you if you are stuck and he is not to far away from Jap Parts if you need to have a look at what else is about

Thanks all for their advice. Feralsprint I will check them out tomorrow. I have a day off that was to be for the engineering test session :( . So I will spend it treking around canberra in search of a radiator. I will ring Phillip rads for a prince and then go out to Joes...

Still the little glimmer of hope is that the engineer seems happy with the car, the test will predominantly centre around braking, which I think I should shoe in...

Cheers

Matt
