I think this topic needs to come to an understanding that you can't compare the two. It really comes down to personal choice.

the Suzuki G13b is a good engine, good in swifts, but from my honest opioion finding a good GTI dodor car is getting really hard to find, they have all been thrashed

the Toyota's are more modern, and haven't shown their age. They appear to be strong. and haven't really shown their weakness. I think they will last quite a while in stock form, considering their bolt on tuning potential

no one does an engine conversion if they don't want it to haul occasionally, if you wanted econony, you'd stay with the old 850 and drums fyour mini came with. when your isurance company, and RTA are happy you are doing the right thing.

theirs no such thing as a good conversion done cheap, their only as strong as their weakest point. Mini Murphy's law predicts that it'll break as you need it the most, remember

they are very different indeed

i was saying that the parts are cheap and readily available in terms of the boxs also the speed which you will get from driving either of these engines in a mini will be a huge improvement over a 850 and fuel used will be similar specially on the highway doing 110 in 5th and not reving to 100000000 rpm

I still want it. I better not go & have a look at it, my missus would kill me!

I could fix it, no probs. Would talk to an engineer first though.

Also there are no inspections over here, unless it was unlic or from outside WA. Just drive it

And end up completely screwed if something happens and you bump somebody on the road or a copper looks at you wondering how a mini can still spin the wheels in 4th gear and is beating a new comodore or something . Do you know an engineer that could go with you for a look as a mate , don't let on to the seller till he's gone all over it and then drive the price down with the list of things it needs doing in order for it to be legal .....

$5500 is already too cheap...for something that's well done...all up parts should come to around that...including the base car...i dont trust it...i stick by my dodgy statement...

I think you will find the motor is of skew, I would think the entire conversion may need to be tidied up. If you had to move the motor back on the passenger side to line everything up then you would probably have to check the drive shaft etc etc etc etc and so on.

Maybe worth just starting from scratch???

My 2c worth anyway

Dan

i agree...i believe his reasoning on the motor-on-an-angle thing was the turbo wouldnt fit...i think he just hasnt thought through the conversion and has just done it in a few days...chuck it in...weld it up...and see if it works...
