Chris, in regards to the e-mail you sent out (Cheers for the update)

The reason that the engine numbers are all over the place is because the shells were here, the engines got shipped in from england. So, when they unloaded the ship they got jumbled. Unlike the Coopers where you can tell if the engine is original etc... the 1275LS's you can't. If i am incorrect on this, please let me know. This is what i have been told and i am just relaying info

The engines were numbered in England and imported in big lots, the engines were fitted to any car and not in a particular order.
The Vin number is the order of production.
The date stamp is the date that the car was released to the selling dealer.

What may have happend (as some Leyland S's have chassis # that fall between those numbers) is that they just numbered them as they came off the production line. eg 4 1275 LS, then an LS, an S, another LS and so on.

hey thanks for that info Zack but you havce alrready given it to me!!n just waiting on the engine number but thats about all!!

And Adeee you would be right about the number sequence. That is what
Morris1100 and myself came to the conclusion about a while back when i first started.

Allan, the above point basically says why there is a 2000+ car number difference, as other cars were made in the same sequence as the 1275LS!!

Thanks for your details as well Brock!

I have some more interesting news to come for the up comming newsletter too! so keep your eyes to your emails!

OH AND THANKS for the numbers for the birdwood car also!

AND the latests engine number i have is 897!! so that is far from the birdwood last car!

Just a little info that I have just uncovered about Leyland Chassis numbers.
Prior to 1st March 1974 all cars were numbered according to their chassis prefix so if there were four different models then there were four different cars with the same number but with a different prefix.
On March 1 1974 this system was changed into one that numbered all the cars as they came off the production line.
The new system had a five digit number after a prefix like 022 D2S1 M09

Now the system changed again sometime around 77/78 to the XNFAD18Y style of prefix with a five digit number.

So any clues to when the X prefix series started and what was the first number?

Chris-This one is for sale in a Used Car Sales yard.I don't think it can be saved.Really bad rust and interior is in bad condition. It's all there though-brakes/1275 motor/orginal rims/radio.
They are asking $2000 for it.I think it will be wrecked for parts
XNFAD18Y/105121
12H902UH000386
Hi-Ho Silver
Also had these numbers stamped on the firewall near the master cylinder.
16572
M2
22
Don't know what those mean?
